The Americans want to put their best players first to get momentum (red on the board). The Europeans want to stop them doing so.

The USA needs points and the Europeans don’t want them getting any momentum. If it was closer the selections may have been somewhat different but with this score you were going to see the big guys early.

Feels like America needed Scheffler to win that match to really have a chance, Rahm clutches up and wins 18 to get the half. Good rally by the US/choke job from Europe so far to make this pretty intereating.

So a full drama day, down to the last four matches. You figure Fleetwood will be able to get the half they need, but obviously a different situation pressure wise when they actually need to come through versus the Cup already being won.

Makes for an interesting finish; still not at the finish line.
Fitzpatrick really should have had that hole.

To be fair it should never have gotten to 18. Homa taking driver and hitting in the water after Fitzpatrick had already hit it in the water on 16 was a incredibly poor decision. And as soon as I say you expect Fleetwood to finish he drops a hole to be only 1 up. Europe is in serious trouble right now, this all-time choke is definitely on.

Fowler in the water probably ends it.

Especially after Fleetwood knocks it to 25 feet for eagle. Fowler probably needs a hole out.

Well that sucks would have been nice to see these Euros throw away that lead but Rickie bails them out.

Hole out won’t do it. It’s over.

Edit: I guess it would have extended it. No matter. Game over.

Not all on Rickie. Europe will win by 4 probably.

It'll be pretty cruel to blame any American for today specifically, this thing was quite obviously lost in the first three sessions.

Yup, until the Americans can figure out the team play thing they will continue to struggle to win the Ryder consistently. Clearly better at singles but usually too deep a hole.

Far from all on Rickie the Americans threw this away in the first few days.

Plus Jordan looks like he was ready to blow it as well if Rickie hadn't hit it into the water.

In the end the narrative coming in held true. America had the better overall team, but Europe had the heavy hitters. Rahm, Rory and Hovland got 10.5 combined points without playing together even once, they won the event for them.

I go back to Day 1 where 3 Europeans made hero putts on 18 to salvage half a point each. Flip 1.5 points on each side and this looks a lot different.

Overall the golf was pretty good I thought. A lot of very close matches.

Yeah it was a good final day, Americans at least made them sweat a bit. But Europe's big guys just clutched up time and again.

So is Zach Johnson a lame captain or what? Him blaming the day 1 struggles on being sick was a garbage excuse. He never should have said it.

She has a chance. Three birdies through seven holes today.
