The Giants and the Cubs agreed to a three-player trade ahead of the deadline that will send third baseman/outfielder Kris Bryant to San Francisco in exchange for outfielder Alexander Canario and right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian.

Bryant gives the Giants an impact-caliber hitter with a good deal of defensive versatility in their quest to win the National League West. The Cubs, meanwhile, continue their rebuild by netting two more interesting prospects for a replenished farm system.

Giants grade: A+
This is a flawless trade for the Giants, so far we're concerned.

Bryant, an impending free agent, has rebounded from a rough 2020 to hit .267/.358/.503 (133 OPS+) with 18 home runs and four steals (on six tries). He's done that while seeing action at six different positions, including at third base and in center field. Add in how he seemingly carries himself as a face of the franchise should, and he would've been a heck of an addition regardless of the cost or the fit. But gosh folks, how about that cost and how about the fit?

The Giants were able to land Bryant without dealing from the top of their system, the way the Dodgers did to acquire Max Scherzer and Trea Turner, or even the way the Mets did to assure they'd land Javier Báez. They also didn't have to send over a package of players, the way the Yankees did to obtain the services of Joey Gallo from the Rangers. Even now, it feels like the Giants should be announcing the identity of another prospect who is heading to Chicago.

Crazy that the Cubs lose Baez, Bryant and Rizzo on the same day. Talk about a teardown.

Tatis Jr. appears to have re-injured his left shoulder sliding into third base.He has left the game.

That's the impression that I get. When it first opened I played around in Photoshop and edited out the roof supports. It looks like it'd be awesome if it were open air (except for the boxes behind the plate).

From what I've read and chatting with one other person who has been to games there, it's unreal from a fan perspective.

I could see it being like Rogers Centre, sucks on TV but cool in person. I'd imagine where it's baseball only it'd be better than Rogers Centre.

San Francisco Giants
Keep it going: Hitting home runs

The Giants don't have anybody with 20 home runs, but they lead the National League in them thanks to power production up and down the lineup and a deep bench. Moving in the fences last season has helped, but this is unprecedented territory for the Giants, who haven't ranked higher than sixth in the NL in home runs since 2002.

Needs to get it going: Alex Wood

Really, it's mostly about just maintaining what has worked so far, which is pretty much everything. Wood has a 5.59 ERA over his past four starts and has been hit harder than earlier in the season. He pitched just 48 innings over 2019-20, so as he has passed 100 innings, let's see if he's hitting a wall or not.

Schedule note: From Aug. 16 to Sept. 5, the Giants play 19 consecutive games against playoff contenders -- at home against the Mets, at Oakland, at the Mets, at Atlanta, home against the Brewers and Dodgers. They also have three series in September against the Padres.

Orioles "slugger" Chris Davis has finally announced his retirement. Much to the relief of every single Oriole fan. During his 2 good seasons he sure had a knack for killing the Blue Jays. But holy moly that contract will go down as one of the worst in sports history. Not to mention his 2018 season is likely the worst season of all time and will probably never be matched. The Orioles felt like they had to keep playing him because of the money they owed him and it was just embarrassing to see. Not to mention he had a positive PED test along the way. Good riddance you ###### canoe.

Totally overplayed on Instagram but I can't help but watching this in a loop. So smooth I don't think I've seen anything like it.

What a storybook finish to a storybook setting. That was pretty special.

Way better than any all star game or any sideshow I’ve seen from any sport. So cool

The irony of the Field of Dreams game appearing to be completely fixed is just the best part.

Last night at my very important Mens Slowpitch game, there was a play where I was batting, bases loaded and 1 out. I hit a ground ball in that the third baseman was able to get at the edge of the grass, but by the time he gets there all the runners are pretty much at the base, and third base is pretty much left uncovered, except for the pitcher coming in late so there really is no play.

Well the guy who was running from 2nd to 3rd has never played ball in his life. He over runs third and is walking back to the base so they get to the ball to the pitcher and tag him out.

The guy who runs our team is hitting two spots behind me and loses his mind at this guy for not sliding...or knowing not to over run the bases. After the game he shows him this video for how to slide, and the guys like but he over ran the base.

Of course the guy after me got out and ended the inning...angry guy leads off the next inning with a Home run and he's going on about this costing us 3 runs.

Tyler Gilbert just threw a no-hitter in his first career start for the D-Backs.

ETA with his parents and family in the audience.
