Weird, I've had mine for a year of heavy use without issue. I also have the ELEMNT Bolt, cadence sensor and their trainer. Everything works seamlessly.

considered not riding this morning due to the wind; however, the lure of 16 degrees at 6 am was too hard to ignore.

that wind this morning added a full 10 minutes to my commute. i'd like to hope that is dies down, or stays blowing in the same direction for the balance of the day, but the reality is that it will likely shift right around for the ride home.

You should have a ncie ride home. For me it was a sweeeeet ride in! Barely had to pedal. Looking at the forecast, I think I'm screwed for the ride home. On top of the north wind, look forward to rain/thunder. Hourly forecast has it starting at 2, so I can't even duck out a little early!

I had to bail on riding today, the afternoon forecast potential for thunderstorms and my wife having a final exam early this evening forced me to take the car. Need to be home by a certain time to be on dad duty so she can get away.

That's OK, looks like a repeat tomorrow, so you can suffer then!

Was ready to complain about the wind and rain and then a giant nail in my tire added 10 minutes to my commute this morning, so i'll complain about that instead.

I've been so warm lately that I'll welcome being rained on this afternoon if that happens.

Kinda curious, but who has the longest daily commute here? Wondering whether 25k each way from NW to near Chinook is too ambitious.

KTrain was doing 50km a day commuting last year and there are some other folks that have a 17 or 18km ride each way. I don't think it's too ambitious as long as you have the time.

My normal commute is 18km but this summer our temp office is 30km. Like Worth said - it's all about how much time you can afford.

ken0042 does 27-28km one way on his commute from deep south. It's definitely doable. Expect at least an hour fifteen commute.

I always suggest people do their route for the first time on the weekend. Make sure there aren't any surprises.

Maybe post your expected route here and get some advice from people who might have ridden it before.

I use several routes for my commute, which is Country Hills to Currie Barracks. The most direct route is about 19.5 km. The long way is just under 29 km. I do not bike commute every day, though.

You can always start with a couple days a week, or ride in/train home. train in, ride home.

I’m also not nearly what I’d consider to be “in shape.” I have a buddy that lives around 19km from my work- so at the start of the season I do the first couple of rides to and from his place.

I also only ride a couple of times per week- so it’s all about what you are comfortable with.

Default Cycling Thread

If it’s about the same as the bus/Ctrain commute, I am okay. I think I need some variety from running, and last time I did some biking it stretched things out nicely.

I am kind of wondering which would be the best route to downtown - I am in Hidden Valley, so either 14th St, Centre St. or Nose Creek. Centre St doesn’t look like a great option. Nose Creek is a little out of the way, but avoids vehicle traffic altogether. 14th is closest with a mix of pathway and street cycling. Any thoughts?

Nose Creek is going to be your happiest option. Probably fastest too, since you won't have traffic lights.

Centre is a no go, to much traffic. 14th has a path, but you end up dealing with hills. You could take it until 10th st, and continue on the on street cycle track.

Also play around on Google Maps. There is a cycling option. It isn’t perfect- but does give you some good options.

What are your guys thoughts on cyclocross bikes? I want something a little more durable than a road bike. But not a mountain bike. My friend just got one and likes it but I'm on the fence. Am I totally wrong in thinking these are a little stronger than the standard road bike?
