I'd argue that him getting taken immediately after we called Wotherspoon's name was the trigger for Gaudreau, as Button had his "oh #### me" moment then and realized they should have been going more for BPA and less by organizational depth. Having Kucherov and Johnny as "wild cards" and not actually on their list gives me that impression very strongly.
It was then that he immediately decided to go for Johnny with their next pick, but Sutter had traded away their 3rd and so they had to sweat it out til the 4th round to call Johnny's name.
