Comparable in that Tkachuk's was a massive dive and Pettersson barely missed Monhan's face with a slash, yes.
Funnily, the reactions the two players had likely should have been reversed but one guy took a hard slash to the chest and stayed on his feet while the other guy took a glove punch with little force behind it to the face and went down like he was shot. 2 minutes for being dumb was all that one deserved.

I dunno, I'd personally rather take a slash across the chest protector from in close, than a jab to the jaw from a 6'8" 230lb giant with a glove and butt end of his stick. I've seen guys knocked out by less.
Found a clip, It's actually a pretty good jab, Myers turned, lunged and put some weight into a straight jab, not exactly a muffin of a wrist flick from in close. Tkachuk definitely sold it for more than it was worth, but he felt it.

At the beginning of that clip you see Myers slash MT pretty good. Safe to say Myers was looking for a way to get at MT.

Both dumb plays deserving of 2 minutes. Not much of a story, other than that 3rd goal at the end of the period absolutely ended it for the nucks. So dumb.

Oh, I think Petey's slash earned that fine. That was dangerous as all hell, even though I don't think it was the intent.
Myers was 2 minutes earned for being stupid. No arguments with that even with the obvious embellishment.

There's clearly a lot of people in this thread who hasn't been on the wrong side of a butt end. It doesn't tickle.

Neither was Tkachuk in this instance. The glove gets him.

Yep I agree. We dont need every team in the league getting up for the Flames because they made a big thing out of something. Not a factor this year but what should be easy games is now a playoff series every time LA is in town. For the longest time Edmonton didnt give a crap either until the Kassian Chucky saga. Just take the easy points and cause trouble in the Playoffs if you must I say.

How many unexpecting people could take a punch under the chin and not fall down. It was hard enough to draw blood, so wouldn't call it a massive dive. Just a bit of embellishment maybe, but biting your tongue or lip doesn't tickle. I just compare it to the Lucic suspension last season.
The slash also looked bad and defiantly some intent to injure but it barley fazed Monahan. Shoulder pads have a lot of chest protection now.

Ever been hit by a gloved hand with zip behind it? Depending on the part of the glove it’s as bad as a stick.

Not to mention said glove holding a stick in it
There is a reason people hold a roll of quarters when they punch

You ever play hockey? Box?
I'm curious because you're so dismissive of being punched in the face, even with something padded. Although I would argue that a hockey glove isn't padded, it's armoured to protect the hand inside.
The punch drew blood, whether he sold it or not. You have to get hit fairly hard to draw blood. He's also holding the butt end of a stick which is pretty hard too.

Well if you look about 31 seconds in there some blood on MT's finger. Guess that came from getting hit with a glove? Your being rational, but I sense sour grapes!!

I mean... I've taken a follow through from a dump in to the face with no blood and just really bad bruising. I've also had someone rake their glove across my face and my lip was bleeding after from the fabric ripping across. Guess which is worse.
