I love an Oilers collapse in their most important game of the season.
So gosh darn delicious, just like that 2017 Anaheim game.
You can practically hear the collective wails of Staples, Spector, Principe, Remenda, Stauffer, the SNET panel and the Oilers management ugly-crying themselves to sleep.
The universe is just righting itself is all.

I shouldn’t be surprised but seeing the official Oilers twitter account whining about the refs is pretty ridiculous. Leave that for the fans and media.

Not gonna lie, I thought the oilers were going to win and turned the tv off. What a pleasant surprise. It is going to be a good day.
I also feel shame for giving them any benefit of doubt. I should know better, E=NG.

That's bush league from the Oilers twitter.
Also warms my heart that the Oilers are losing.
Would be perfect if they lost to Chicago and then did not win the lottery.

Any Oilers media mention that the Hawks hit FIVE posts last night?

I have not seen any media touch this (they would get the guillotine if they did.)
There was one particularly lucid fan on the oil boards last night who disparaged his brethren for clamoring about penalties and saying they deserved to win by cudgeling them with that stat and lamenting that the oilers were losers all night.

There was a total of 2 PPG in the game and each team got 1 each? WHUT?
You nailed it this is completely pathetic, and by reading the tweet thread the fan base is lapping it up.

The general belief in Oilers circles is that broberg has passed Bouchard

I don't know why I thought this, but I thought at least the official Oil twitter wouldn't blame refs.
I thought that was the job of Stauffer, Tchykowski, Jones, Staples, Spector and literally everyone else who cheerleads for this team.

He's got talent, I'll give him that. I mean he has used that talent to his personal benefit but it seems like he does not quite have the bus driving characteristic and his talent has made him look better than he is.
I think he really benefits from having McDavid on his team. Whether he's on the ice with McDavid or he's getting lesser opponents because the top checkers are focused on McDavid.
|
He does have talent, but playing with McDavid, has given him confidence, enough that, he can put up points feasting on the power play, seems that that's pretty much all they concentrate on, padding their stats.

I think we're seeing the recipe for beating the Oilers, actually.
If you focus on defending against McDavid and Draisaitl, you end up with a low scoring game where their PP can win it with a timely goal.
Fortunately Chicago can't defend, so they are throwing everything at the attack. And the Oilers' defensive play is terrible - lousy D core, and lazy forwards. That gives Chicao a fighting change. And IMO, over the course of 3 games so far, they have been the better team - outgunning the Mighty Gunners of Mulletville.
I think the way to beat them is to go full offense on them and try to win 6-5 instead of 2-1

Which probably isn't true.
Broberg's just the shiny new toy in Oilers land, so of course he's better.

And the key is McDavid and Draisaitl get their points, but probably finish even or minus still.
Those two still aren't great defensively so getting the puck behind them and forcing them to play below their own hashmarks is still the best way to defend them. Problem is they are so deadly on the rush that you have to be a bit careful, but overall trying to out score the Oilers is probably still the best way to play them.
