Default Greatest player who only played for the Flames?

The question is simple, who is the greatest player who played their entire career in Calgary? Gio was the obvious answer but now that he's gone who has the title?

How many players had long careers and started and finished with the flames?

I'm assuming NHL team. Going with Hakan Loob here.

This really should have been Mark Giordano ... just sucks

Jim Peplinkski
Hakan Loob
Mikael Backlund (to date)

then it gets really lean.

This is such a slam dunk for Loob. And #2 is also pretty easy - Pep.
After that it gets darn hard.
Ignoring active players of which any of Backlund, Monahan, Johnny could be contenders if they stick around. Which is unlikely through their entire career.

Loob.

There's only 5 players who have played a minimum of 400 NHL games who have never played for another franchise: Peplinski, Loob, Backlund, Monahan, and Gaudreau (Tkachuk is set to join them later this season). Since the last three are still active, the chances that they never play elsewhere are low.

Maybe I'm stretching it, but Kipper only played a handful of games in SJ. His rookie season was in CGY, and he retired a Flame.

this wiki lists all the players both retired and current who have played at least 10 years with only one team.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._one_franchise

pretty interesting. The list of current players is longer than I thought it would be.

He played 47 games for the Sharks. His rookie season was not in Calgary.

He played more games for San Jose than Markstrom has played for the Flames, and only 2 fewer than Brian Elliott did.

I went through and tried to find the player with the 3rd most games played, only as a Flame.
I think it's Dave Hindmarch.

this would be a very lean list for most, if not all, franchises (if you exclude current players).

but yes it would be Loob.

I think it's Dave Hindmarch.
Pekka Rautakallio played 235 games between Atlanta and Calgary.

----------
If you're looking for games played only in Calgary, Hindmarch's 99 games played (and one brutal career-ending injury) does appear to be 3rd behind Pep and Loob (active players excluded).

Who would of thought Jim Peplinski - the only captain who played all his years as a Flames? Not the greatest Flames but he was significant as part of the leadership on the Flames in that era. Guess Hakan Loob is the greatest Flames that played all his games in the NHL with the Flames, but it's only for 6 seasons. Backlund is making it interesting but likely won't be classified as one of the greatest.

Eric Vail and Guy Chouinard were close. Just one season post Flames.
