Ha, no he didn't and don't know where you got this from. Totally wrong. Sauces are mostly all home made since its really simple to make. There is a company is Calgary that does sell donair meat but that's mostly to the franchise's like My Donair. Shawarma Palace spices their own meat and has their own secret recipe.

That's like saying every burger joint is the same because they use the same meat company. Donair shops spice their own meat and there is so much difference with different donair shops.

Imo Jimmys is one of the worst in Calgary but it's popular in Calgary for some reason. Tastes like a lettuce sandwich if you're lucky enough that it doesn't turn into a salad in your hands.

No! Not Sammy's! I used to go there all the time. Great food and talking to Sammy was the best. Dang.

Agreed 100%, Jimmy's is extremely overrated.

Love the Pita Grill in Riverbend- pretty consistently awesome for both Chicken and Donair. A new place opened up in the SE I have been meaning to try- will update if I do (it seems they make their own Pitas!

I haven't had it in 7-8 years, it was good then.

Has it gone down hill?

I had Jimmy 5 years ago and I won't go back again. It was just a soggy salad mess with unbalanced flavors.

Shawarma has made me sick the last three or four times I've had it. And once Falafel did me in. The brand new place on Edmonton Trail, Shawarma Ave, was the worst. Jerusalem on 16th was bad. And Shawarma Hamid was unforgivable. Calgary Shawarma on Edmonton Trail poisoned me last year. I'm a sensitive flower but that's getting ridiculous.

Uncle Moe's, all around the city are OK. Maybe a little pricey for what you get.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Just skipped the dishes ordered from Pita Corner in Dover for Falafel and donair. Will see.

(PS any CPers wanting to get referral links for skip, send me a pm! I think both of us can get $7 off)

Edit: Meh. Don't bother with Pita Corner. Much better options out there.

I think They have new owners now. Tried it before he sold it and it was god awful. The owner was actually the brother of the owner of little Lebanon which I think is extremely overrated as well.

Any decent places downtown to get a shawarma/donair? And not Cedars Deli?

I can't answer your question, but I will ask one.

Is the donair place on McKenzie Towne high street open?

If so any good?

Aida's Donair is open, and I do really like it. Their garlic sauce is my favourite. They have shawarma, but their beef donairs are what I go there for.

Go to Mazaj which is located at 230 7 Ave SW.

Beirut Bakery and Little Lebanon are pretty much the same place and both are delicious. Donair Hut in Deer Run is pretty fantastic as well, amazing homemade hot sauce which I wish more places had instead of just sriracha.

Falafel King is my go-to downtown. You even get a free piece of delicious baklava!

Why did Beirut open a block from Little Lebanon if they are the same place?

Has to be a knockoff trying to replicate the original great Chicken Pocket.

Little bit of a family feud and they're not the same place not even close.

They are 350 m apart and the menu is very similar... too bad even if it was a family feud they would have been far better off further away. If BB sold out already I guess that answers the question.
