Roadtrip to Seattle

This summer, my wife and I and our 3 kids are going to drive to Seattle. We plan on going for a week camping in a near by campground. It is my first trip outside of the country. What would people suggest we do while there. Kids ages are 13, 8, and 4.

We will be there the weekend the Blue Jays are in town, and am hoping to go to one of the games. Has anyone ever gotten the Seattle City Pass, it looks to be a good deal to me?

Forgot to mention, cost effective ideas would be great as well we have a decent budget but not a huge budget for the trip.

I would highly recommend going to a Jays game. It's amazing in Seattle when they are there, more Jays fans than Mariners fans

Don't travel through central Washington to get there, even if it's a shorter distance. Worse than driving through Saskatchewan.

That was one of my favourite road trips ever. If you go nice and early you can beat the crowds on the Going to the Sun or whatever the hell its called highway. Your kids will probably love it. Northern Montana, Idaho have super pretty drives and very little traffic. Leavenworth is kind of neat if you like kitschy tourist traps, but children might enjoy it.

We did this trip last year with our 9 and 10 year olds. It was great. We stayed a night in Sandpoint and spent the day at Silverwood Theme Park before moving on to Seattle for the rest of the trip. If you're at all interested in good amusement parks (10x better than Calaway) and a water park, it might be work a slight detour.

I find Silverwood needs more than a day, I've (tried) to do it in one day but 2 would be better. It's that big. It's a great park and has expanded greatly through the years. IIRC there is camping across the freeway from the park so you can get there early in the morning

Making a reservation might be free, but the tour itself it definitely NOT free. I've been several times over the 5-6 years, no reservations necessary.

The drive through washington is boring, but the I90 is a really good highway and not too busy. If you go through Sparwood stopping at the large dump truck is cool and something your kids would probably like

Your kids will like the flying fish at Pikes Market in Seattle.

The Boeing plant is outstanding but definitely not free.

We did a full day (open to close) with the morning at the water park and the amusement park in the afternoon. We probably could have used a few more hours at the water park but were pretty content overall.

The City Pass is a good buy for Seattle. It will get you into most of the best sights in central Seattle. And of those attractions, the Harbor tour is an underrated part of it - especially if you do it after having been on your feet for most of a day or two. It's nice to just relax on a boat for an hour and enjoy a beverage, even if you don't actually care about the tour part.

Definitely go to a Jays-Mariners game. It's nuts. Also, Friday's game is a fireworks night, if that is of interest to you. Keep in mind though that because of the demand for the series, a lot of things get jacked up in price. Fortunately, you are skipping the hotels. Parking by Safeco (or whatever it's called now) is *expensive*. You might consider parking closer to the airport and taking their LRT in.

I'd rather drive through the US -- gas is a lot cheaper than it will be in BC.

Lots to see and do in Seattle -- we also got the City Pass the first time we went (albeit 10+ years ago). Also check out the outlet mall in Tulalip -- if you show your Alberta drivers license you don't have to pay state sales tax (this applies anywhere in Washington State). Seattle Zoo is also pretty good (not sure how much admission is though).

You also mentioned its your first time out of the country -- if you're driving you'll need your passport but your kids can just use their birth certificates.
