Clearly Hall was the more prominent member but what ever happened to being humble? They were a good duo so it's kind of a dick move to publicly diminish Oats contributions even if it's true.
They have hated each other for years. Hall has been reported over the years as overbearing and difficult to work with and Oates a little more friendly. They have said they are like parents who hate each other but can't divorce because the songs are their kids.
Look up Live from Daryl's House on Youtube. It's a great series where they invite other musicians to jam at his place.
Lots of members of long-running bands hate one another. Jagger and Richards. Daltrey and Townshend. They stick together (or reunite) for one reason only - the money.
The explanation for 90 per cent of the stuff pop stars do is money or ego. For all their talent and charisma, they’re typically pretty awful people.

The Police are another famous one. Sting was apparently a prick to the rest and even though the only part of Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You" that is from the Police Song "I'll be Watching You" is the guitar lick written by Andy Summers, Sting gets all the millions in royalty cheques and it has caused friction.
