Gets to QB a world class power play for one year and put up big points, hopefully cash in on a desperate GM next year

It’s not like his defensive shortcomings are going to be a problem on that blue line. He walks right into a top 4 role based just on his offensive game

I don’t think he is very good overall but he will put up points on this contract for sure

Can we all stop to appreciate how screwed Vancouver is getting this offseason? Look at their defense past Hughes and tell me that’s a playoff team. Especially without Markstrom there to bail them out every night.

is it just me, or does this deal seem like its not even close to what Barrie or the Oilers wanted?

Only one year, for 4 mil? I don't get it.
Only thing that makes sense to me is Barrie is hoping to get a boat-load of points leading the #1 PP in the league, and boost his value next free agency

Before his bad season in Toronto, it was looking like Barrie was going to get 7x7 or more

So he can rack up points on the Oilers and get someone to pay too much and too long next year. He doens't have to play defense there, perfect for Barrie.

Can you imagine a shift as a goalie when you see McDavid, Draisaitl, Barrie and Nurse rolling out on the ice. If I'm a free agent goalie, I'm like Nope.

Barrie is horrific without the puck. Now he's going to probably get nearly 30 minutes a game.

Gave up $2 million to sign a 1 year deal with the Oilers? Sure he did.

Wow what a horrible career move considering most players that play for the oilers regress he should have taken a longer deal or more money his next contract will be for league min or a PTO

Pile up points in a system that won't ask him to be defensively responsible, cash out next year when he has a higher perceived value and (hopefully) the salary cap starts climbing again and the UFa deals get real silly again

I mean if James Neal can pad his stats with the Oilers PP, imagine what Barrie can do.

I guess they’re going with a league minimum backup goalie.

Should be fun to watch them do it all again next year.

I always liked Barrie before his stint in Toronto

You're probably right though, I'll admit I'm biased. I've been a fan ever since following him in Kelowna when he was playing with Myers, Backlund and Benn

I think this is an example of a an agent doing a good job with a bad situation for his client.

Worst year of your career and also a pandemic? Wait a year, pad your stats, and cash in after a bunch of teams lose D men to Seattle.

Smart. Didn’t want Barrie here long term also

This seems like a lose/lose deal unless the Oilers think a season in Edmonton will convince Barrie to sign there long-term?

If you want to lock players in Edmonton forcing them to spend time there is not a good way to start.

Leaves the Oilers with 1.2 million and very few options for a starting goalie. The wise move would be for the Oilers to trade a guy like RNH for futures. They're going to need to rebuild next year anyways with 11 players under contract and little in the way of futures.

yeah I get the idea of padding his stats to cash out next year, but it's not like bad injuries don't exist in the NHL. One year deal is quite the risk in that regard, so I'm a bit surprised a guy at 29 would take that over long-term security.

Probably advice from his agent, definitely not playing it safe
