On one hand I think the flames will miss what Reider brought, especially on the penalty kill.
On the other hand, Calgary has a handful of prospects possibly ready to graduate (Gawain, Phillips etc) that will need to have an opportunity at some point, and openings on the 4th line would be nice
I think I’m ok with this

Funny how none of us cared about him until the playoffs and his incredible work on the PK.
I agree I would have liked to bring him back but it’s hard to imagine Tre didn’t offer him the exact same contract.
He probably saw Buffalo as a place where he would suit up every game and possibly even play as high as the 3rd line.

He scored some big goals in the playoffs but he was too small to play a 4th line role. Easily pushed off the puck and could not cycle and grind. Good on the PK though.
Flames will need to get some bigger guys who are quick and can PK. They lost 2 of their regulars today.

I really liked Reider on the 4th line and PK
I wouldn't mind seeing Grabner picked up to replace Reider, but I'm always happy with giving young guys already in the system an opportunity

I don’t think it was one or the other. I see Robinson being a depth player. Reider is probably looking for more playing time

I'd much rather guys with potential be taking roster spots at minimum wage than who we know are maxed out. Reider did a good job while he was here, but looking for to Phillips, Gawdin, Robinson, Ruzicka, Pelletier, Pospisil filling in these spots.
