I wonder if the Argos signings can finally mean a competitive East?

I don't know how much better the Argos will be in 2020, you still need a QB that can deliver when it matters most and I still don't see that in Toronto. I mean, is it any coincidence that the Bombers thrived when Matt Nichols was no longer under center?

I think under a different system with more passing, and healthy, Nichols will be just fine. I think Zach is better obviously, but the Argos aren't exactly throwing out Franklin now

The Argos sure have been spending like drunken sailors today, though. At least Nichols and MBT shouldn't be complaining about a lack of quality receivers.

I'm glad we didn't go after guys like Jonathan Jennings or James Franklin -- guys who have likely reached their ceiling as backup fodder.

Derel Walker remains the big fish on the free agent market - Looks like he tried to score a big deal with the Argos, but they decided to go with T.J. Jones and DaVaris Daniels. Not sure how much money BC has left, but both Ed Hervey and Mike Reilly are familiar with Walker from his days with the Eskimos.

From what I’ve seen Hervey is loading up except on the offensive line. Reilly needs time to be effective and he’d better hope Hervey adds some pieces on the line or Reilly could have trouble. If he signs Derel Walker to that fat contract Reilly may not the protection he needs to get the ball to his receivers and he may take another beating like past year.

They better hope Harris is healthy. After his first few games of action where he flashed a bit every game he started for the Als was pretty well a guaranteed loss.

CFLPA files grievance over Calgary Stampeders’ refusal to release Nate Holley
https://www.tsn.ca/cflpa-files-griev...lley-1.1442912
Quote:
The Canadian Football League Players’ Association has filed a grievance over the Calgary Stampeders refusal to let linebacker Nate Holley out of his contract to pursue opportunities in the National Football League.
|
Quote:
But unlike his former Calgary teammate Tre Roberson and players like former Winnipeg defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo, the Stampeders say they won’t release Holley from his deal, which expires after the 2020 season.
That came as a surprise to Holley, who signed in the CFL after a stint with the Los Angeles Rams with the understanding the league has an “NFL window” to allow players to work out and sign for NFL teams during the off-season.
“Nate’s impression, and what he told me, was that Calgary would give him a window to workout for NFL teams between his first and second year on the contract,” said Holley’s NFL representative, Kyle Strongin. “At the end of the year, I heard from some NFL teams that Nate was not on the approved workout list given to them by the NFL, which was different than what we anticipated or expected.”
