Have been expecting a Hamonic signing in Winnipeg. Maybe that has fallen through?

Only Hamonic rumours I've seen are the Canucks looking at him and Vatanen

TSN reported before free agency started that the Jets weren't really interested in Hamonic.

For what they spend vs what they get...yes.

How much are they wasting in buyouts?

I like this deal over the Tanev deal any day.

Adding Stastny is an improvement.

Signing Forbert is not building a blue line if you expect him to play meaningful minutes.

Man if the Jets aren’t interested in someone who wants to play defense for them what does that say about a market for Hamonic?

Jets are the perfect example of why you can't replace top 4 defensemen with third pairing guys.

They lost Byfuglian, Trouba and Myers last year and went cheap and "shrewd" and went with Poolman, Sbisa, Kulikov, Beaulieu. They became a bubble team and lost to another bubble team in the play-in round and honestly, it wasn't even close, they got outclassed by the Flames by a fair margin (obviously losing Scheifle hurt). The Jets didn't lose anyone up front, they just cheaped out on the back end and they became a middling team.

Those of you suggesting that the Flames should have replaced Brodie with guys like Forbort, Van Reimsdyk, Barrie, Stetcher instead of paying up for a legitimate top 4 in Tanev should look at what happened to Winnipeg last year.

Same thing will happen to Vancouver this year too.

The Jets have 27K in cap space and require two forward to fill their 23 man roster. They have 7 defenseman signed already though it's possible to add Hamonic but they'd have to clear cap to do so.

His desired location may be Winnipeg but I'd say Vancouver, with 4LD and 1RD signed, is a better option (at this point). Not his choice but if he wants to play in Winnipeg would have to sign closer to what Forbet signed for than what he may value himself at.

What's Hamonic realistically going to fetch with everything going on (flat cap, teams with internal budgets, bailing on team for play-in and playoffs, roster spots dwindling, etc.).

Forbort for a million as a 5,6,7 guy is a decent signing. As long as he's not playing higher in the lineup.

It's definitely good that they've gotten rid of these as possible conditions on trades.

Not sure you can call Forbort a miss; he's almost certainly in the top third of #15 picks in the last 31 years:

Spoiler!

You can go back further and find Sakic, MacInnis, McCrimmon, but lots of other busts, too - I just like 1990 as an arbitrary cut off for the 'modern' drafting era

I get the feeling Hamonic isn't coming back as long as there's a pandemic, and probably has made it known to his agent.

He just strikes me as that sort of person. If he has to choose between his family's health and well being and his career, I suspect the former.

I'll take the better team/player thanks

Not that I would be against this deal if it didn't cost the Flames a draft pick but he doesn't move the needle. I hope the Flames ice six Dmen better then Forbort if their intentions are winning

Jets can save all the cap space they want, its not like it carries over if you don't use it. Guys on the ice decide the games.

They're up against the cap. What are you talking about?
