The United States is seeking United Nations authorization to use military force to board and seize North Korean smuggling vessels on the high seas, dramatically escalating the Trump administration’s nuclear standoff with the Hermit Kingdom, according to a draft resolution obtained by Foreign Policy.

The push for a green light for military action was included in a sweeping U.S. draft Security Council resolution that would ban Pyongyang’s export of oil, liquid gas, and textiles, and forbid the employment of North Korean laborers, who are required to send home a big chunk of their earnings. The draft would also hit North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, his government, and the ruling Worker’s Party, with sanctions.

I said at the time that I don't think the GOP controlled Hill really wants to look at how they themselves handle classified information let alone apply the same standard they were trying to apply to Clinton. In short...very few people know how to handle information properly in any company or government and know what systems they should be using for what pieces of information. Unless there is malicious intent in not using the proper systems there really isn't anything prosecutors etc can or will do.

That likely applies to this group of people as well. Even though it's funny to see them get knocked off their high horse a bit.

Here's a central part of Coates' thesis that will likely get a lot of discussion, at least among the left:

That challenge of differentiation has largely been ignored. Instead, an imagined white working class remains central to our politics and to our cultural understanding of those politics, not simply when it comes to addressing broad economic issues but also when it comes to addressing racism. At its most sympathetic, this belief holds that most Americans—regardless of race—are exploited by an unfettered capitalist economy. The key, then, is to address those broader patterns that afflict the masses of all races; the people who suffer from those patterns more than others (blacks, for instance) will benefit disproportionately from that which benefits everyone. “These days, what ails working-class and middle-class blacks and Latinos is not fundamentally different from what ails their white counterparts,” Senator Barack Obama wrote in 2006:

"Downsizing, outsourcing, automation, wage stagnation, the dismantling of employer-based health-care and pension plans, and schools that fail to teach young people the skills they need to compete in a global economy."

Obama allowed that “blacks in particular have been vulnerable to these trends”—but less because of racism than for reasons of geography and job-sector distribution. This notion—raceless antiracism—marks the modern left, from the New Democrat Bill Clinton to the socialist Bernie Sanders. Few national liberal politicians have shown any recognition that there is something systemic and particular in the relationship between black people and their country that might require specific policy solutions.

They just want to ignore the obvious. They were just as bad as Clinton in this regard.

In short...very few people know how to handle information properly in any company or government and know what systems they should be using for what pieces of information.

That's a pretty broad brush to use. Most government workers that handle data are schooled on classification and handling procedures. Many of these controls are because of law, and education in that regard are a requirement to those laws. Private interests are getting better, but they need to make investments in areas they don't want to until it is too late.

System access and data handling are two completely different beasts. Accessing a system which requires advanced authentication is in itself considered intent, as there is a willful action involved with logging into the system. Data handling is different, as data can arrive in your possession without a willful act. Configuring a device to receive information sent to you is not considered a willful act. What you do with that received data is where the law affects you. Forward it, save it off, or print it, and you have made a conscious decision to act on the reception of that data.

The same rule should be applied here. Is the private email use a crime? Not unless there is a specific statute that forbids the use. The language is still vague in this regard. Is it a policy violation? Hell yes. The former will be decided by those who review the data handled. The later is obvious and should result in some heads rolling, especially after the brouhaha raised about Clinton's "misuse" of a private server.
