Thumbs up 15th Annual River City Classics Show and Shine

Show & Shine Sunday September 24th - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Quote:
River City Classics Car Club has been staging this annual event since 2002. It has grown from a small beginning of a few vehicles located in George Lane Park to its current status where the Show takes over the whole of Downtown High River.

It isn’t unusual to see over 1100 vehicles and 50 vendors set up for the last Sunday in September. Access to Downtown is restricted on Show Day so vendors have become accustomed to arriving the evening before and locating their trailers.
Burn out night - Saturday September 23rd - 5:30 PM

Quote:
Starting in 2016 the River City Classics instituted a “Burn-Out” rdNight the evening before the Show. If you want to burn a little bit of rubber, in First gear only, then come out and register for the Burn-Out. In 2016 the Town of High River and the High River RCMP Detachment graciously allowed us to close Centre Street just north of 12th Ave. In the space of 5 long blocks we were able to create three burn-out staging areas. Participants, under guidance from our Volunteers, were able to get in as many 100 Ft runs as they could in a 2 hour period.

Just a bump and a reminder for the show this Sunday.

Sunny day with temps around or above +15 should make for a great day. Should be close to 1,200 vehicles an a lot food trucks for the hungry.

Was told they had a record number of vehicles registered this year. Judging by the crowds this afternoon they may set a record for that too. Bright warm sunny day.

The number of food trucks and food venders were way up this year.

Never noticed until this year but people love to bring their dogs to these events. Everywhere you went you'd be bumping into someone and their dog. Surprisingly they all got along and I didn't see or hear of any dogs scraping.

This year I decided to focus on the trucks that were registered and will post some photos later. I know my good friend bc-chris will be salivating

It’s Monday, the day after the Show and the heady experience of another successful Show is still in the air!

It was a chilly -2 Celcius as we arrived at morning set-up for the event, yet there already were 3 vehicles lined up at Registration. That was just the beginning. By the time Registration completed at 11:00 we had seen 1106 vehicles. There were the customized pick-ups, the scorching Mustangs, the motorcycles, the VW Beetles, the Lotus Super 7, and it just went on from there. We saw almost everything and throughout we also saw some of the most fantastic people in Alberta. Thanks to all. I don’t think I saw a face without a smile the whole day.

Of course it warmed up later, as it always does, and the crowds were everywhere. It’s easy for us to count cars (& trucks & bikes) as they arrive but counting the public spectators is a whole other question. In the closing stages of the Show, while out picking up out signage, I noticed a plethora of motorcycles parked on the grass near the Centre Street bridge with other personal vehicles in the former community of Wallaceville.

Business for our Vendors was brisk wherever I looked. Let’s guess that there were upwards of 11,000 visitors to Town on Sunday.

Why do none of those trucks have nutz on them?
