If Burke ends up here I can't see Matt Stajan being here very long, lol.

There have been plenty of worse trades since then.
How was he supposed to know? The same way Boston figured they would be that bad. By making an honest, accurate assessment of his team.

I am implying that they went to OT of game 7 against a good team. The Stanley Cup finalist is a reflection of Boston certainly not anything I think would have happened if TO had won that game.

For what it is worth, I think Pittsburgh would have beat NYR in the ECF if TO wins that game 7.

Positive Moon is making me very enthusiastic about this move.

He is right though. The shrewd moved outnumber the poor ones.

Even the Kessel deal has evened out over the years.

Just going off memory here but his stubborn refusal to use an offer sheet on Kessel (after the Penner fiasco) probably cost them an extra 1st round pick. Don't remember the exact numbers but if he had offered Kessel a bit less the compensation would have been a 1st, 2nd and 3rd rather than 2 x 1sts and a 2nd. Boston couldn't have matched and Kessel didn't have much else for options.

He also brought in guys like Bozak and Hiller into the NHL as undrafted players. Then Burke won a couple bidding wars for the rights to Gustavsson, and a few other free agent NCAA players. He even drafted Justin Schultz, who might have stuck around if Burke was still with the Ducks for all we know.

And look he used to be a happy person as well!

Stajan will be with the Flames for the same amount of time whether Burke is hired or not. Trade deadline.

Would Burke try and bring back Dion if he does not re-sign with TO is the real question?

I'd fully support the move because Burke to me is a better GM overall. However, if the interview process started in March, and has taken some time to come together in terms of the offer and all the moving pieces, setting the stage for him joining, I must say that in that span- Feaster has made me believe a little bit more.

I'm quite happy with the direction with this team is going. So with Burke or without Burke, it's all good in my books!

Also, I particularly echo moon's comments... so many people downplay Burke but there's a reason there's excitement he could be joining... his teams end up as playoff teams and Cup contenders. So far... all 3 of the last ones actually.

Anyway you can pat yourself on the back without screwing up the thread? Scrolling so you can post the image of a post from way back when quoting it would work just as well is a pain in the ass.
Your life sounds so hard.

Got to say I am a bit torn on this. He knows the game no question, but I think his ego can get him in trouble. In the end though I think it would be a good move if this does indeed happen. Having another great hockey mind in the organization is never a bad thing.

Burke is a very good GM and the only two major mistakes that I can think of that he has made is hanging onto Cloutier in Vancouver and overpaying badly for mediocre dmen in Toronto. What bothers me about him is that he almost seemed to evolve into a wrestling character towards the end of his stint in TO, he was always a loudmouth but he went waaay overboard and it seemed like he enjoyed that the media was always talking about him. Hopefully, the time away from the spotlight has given him a chance to mellow out.

He is an expert at deflecting heat away from a team when it is struggling. If you can handle the way he does that, you will appreciate him.

If this arena/entertainment complex is a go, KK is going to be busy with that, and it sounds like he's going to assume the President of Flames Enterprises kind of like the President of MLSE.

This would be fantastic news. Like him or hate him he builds winning teams. The one "knock" people seem to have in that track record is Toronto but the team he assembled was far better than any Toronto team in the past long while.

+1. Should have been fired immediately after the ROR debacle.
