Some Satire for sure JMakarov.
Flames walk at 8x12. That’s 13.7~x7 for everyone else and nobody is offering him that. I hope your suggestion is a joke because it is.

Or sir respectfully, you just don’t because this is business and I don’t think you understand how a salary cap with no luxury tax system works. There is only so much pot to share and Jon without a supporting cast doesn’t win a cup. You think Elias is gonna be cheap on his next contract? What about that Matthew guy? What about Andrew?
How about that non existent puck carrying 1C.
With your logic we should just offer Johnny Max x8 and Johnny can do it himself, because you said being relevant is important. Cut the crap, You want a cup and I want a cup. Being Relevant doesn’t matter only The Stanley Cup matters and I ain’t seen one here.
Ask the sharks if being relevant was fun? How about the canucks? Any leafs fans around?
I’m just guessing here but You must like participation medals.

I remember the day when John was drafted by the Flames. He was playing in a AAA hockey summer tournament with all of his friends that my husband runs every year. Someone ran over to the bench and said something to Guy (who was coaching). All the kids started banging their sticks on the ice. I was in the bleachers, at the other end, thinking “what is going on?” Guy yelled over to me to tell me John was drafted. I said "where?" and he yelled out "Calgary." Again, I said "where?" and he repeated "Calgary." I didn’t know much about Calgary other than the Olympics were there and it was very far away. I immediately started to cry. One of the other mothers came over and said, "oh my gosh, you’re crying … you must be so happy!" I said "no, I’m crying because it’s so far away!"
I didn’t exactly know where Calgary was but I did know it wasn’t near any of the other Canadian cities where we played youth hockey, like Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa. Immediately, I looked it up on my phone and saw it was 2,363 miles away. I was so upset.
A couple of days after the Draft, the biggest bouquet of flowers I have ever seen in my life was delivered to our house. They were from Jay Feaster, who was the Flames’ general manager at the time, and card attached that read, "Jane, welcome to the Flames family. PS: Calgary isn’t that far away." I don’t know how Mr. Feaster knew I was so upset but that gesture meant so much to me.
Jane and Guy Gaudreau are hockey royalty in this city and deserve to be with how they’ve embraced the city and Johnny playing here.

In case you missed it.

I've got a feeling something big happens today: either Johnny signs or we find out he won't come back to the Flames and they're looking at the option of trading his rights (or signing him and trading him so the new team can have that 8th year). News about Tkachuck will come out shortly after that: either a short deal or traded to NYJ for #2 pick.

It's to make everyone think they know more about the situation and how it will play out.
Without the proper context of a number of unknown facts, including the actual personalities of the people involved, the negotiation strategy that might be best in any given situation is largely unknown.

Gotta think they will want an answer sometime today so they can be ready for the draft Thursday.

I think the organisation already knows what Gaudreau is doing.

If that's the case then he is gone as there would be no reason not to announce the signing.

I don't see the implication here. Flames have few draft picks to trade so I don't see why his answer will dictate anything at the draft. I don't think the Flames are looking to shop his rights.

Brad has done most of his team building at or just before the draft. I guess this could be different this year tho.

If the Flames already know and a deal isn’t announced by Thursday, I suspect this isn’t going the way most of us want.

Well, if he hasn't signed yet, then there is absolutely nothing to announce. And despite all the speculation, we still know next to nothing about what is actually going on, which means that for all we know both sides are still closing in on numbers that work.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
The Flames are going to have a quiet draft regardless. No picks to deal, no cap to work with as they have it all earmarked for their FAs.
Knowing if Johnny is leaving or staying doesn't matter for the draft when the focus is free agency on the 13th.
And as I type that, on the 32 Thoughts podcast (just listening now) Friedman speculates that the Flames may ask for clarity on the situation this week

Agreed. I don't see how the draft will affect things for the Flames if Gaudreau is not re-signed by then.
