Another post inspired by Bourdain. I did not watch his show religiously but I caught his most recent show because it was about Hong Kong, my birthplace, and a place that stills feels like home to me even though I left when I was a small child. A terrific Hong Kong band was featured on this most recent show and I've been going through their youtube videos since seeing them. His shows had lots of great music. He loved punk rock and post-hardcore and gave exposure to many independent bands.

So, the other thread about 2018 music's discussion forced me to go back and listen to one of my favorite albums: Kaputt by Destroyer. Here's a couple of my favorite tracks...

I've started looking for HK bands lately. These guys are great.

I wonder if a thread about "best lyrics" would fly?

I'd nominate the whole "Suffer" album by Bad Religion. That's some dark and heavy #### and even more relevant today than in 1988.

Had never heard of Queen Kwong before I saw them play live last night. They rocked hard. Really digging their stuff.

Were you at NIN in Vegas last night? If so how was the show?

I was. Tomorrow too.

Sounded better than they have since with teeth tour. Helps that this is the start of a tour and they haven’t played a lot recently. Also loving the simple stage design. Trent even mentioned they would play deep cuts and songs they liked playing. Metal, I Do Not Want This, Burn, Letting You. No hurt or closer. I hope Friday has even more variety.

The Joint is a great venue. But it’s hot as ####ing balls here. 40C today. I’m not going outside again today until the sun goes down. I think I almost melted walking two blocks to the dispensary.

Which is the bigger achievement: Bob Pollard's no-hitter in college baseball or Steve Albini winning a WSOP gold bracelet?

Chicago's Steve Albini earns first WSOP bracelet by winning long-running seven-card stud event.

http://www.wsop.com/news/2018/Jun/10...CARD-STUD.html

Quote:
Chicago, Illinois' Steve Albini has earned his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet in the 2018 WSOP's Event #31, $1,500 Seven Card Stud. Albini's victory over a 310-entrant field was worth $105,629.

Albini, 55, a recording engineer from Chicago, pulled off an unusual double at the final table. Albini busted six-time bracelet winner Chris Ferguson in fourth, then outlasted another six-time bracelet winner, Jeff Lisandro, to seal the victory.

Albini's career-best payday more than doubled his previous lifetime WSOP earnings of $58,599, collected in five previous cashes.

Couldn’t happen to a (not) nicer guy. I like that he’s wearing a Cocaine Piss shirt.

My son turned me on to this song recently.

Pavement drummer Steve West joined Malkmus and the Jicks on stage last night in North Carolina and they played a couple of Pavement tunes.

My sister's wedding was yesterday, and since she's an opera singer, most of the music was of the classical/baroque variety during the ceremony, but at the end they chose this beautiful Scottish folk song called Wild Mountain Thyme that I had almost forgotten about. I found a version of it with Ed Sheeran and he does it pretty good justice.
