Not that this trade is horrid, I still like it for the Yotes more, but it seems like he loses a lot of deals. Not sure what his plan is for that franchise.

I don't think it's as bad as most are saying.
At this point, Gally is what he is. A 50-60 point perimeter center/winger.

Domi is a bit more of a wild card. He's a 50pt player as well but he's got some bite to his game. From Mtl's pov I think they see a guy who as a floor of what Gally is but can bring more intangibles.

LeBrun intimating that the Habs further plan is RoR. and that Buffalo is after a different set of assets so moving Galchenyuk doesn't disrupt that idea.

I hope you're right, but it's looking pretty bleak.
Well Domi couldn't hit double digit goals either of the last two seasons. If he was our prospect many would be proclaiming him a bust much like they've done with Bennett. Actually Domi and Bennett have a lot of similarities in their NHL career so far. Both had their best season as a rookie and took steps back since then.

Bleak though? Where's the patience people? In the grand scheme of things Bennett has barely started his NHL career. And he missed almost an entire season due to shoulder surgery post-draft. How quickly people forget his 18 goal rookie year and the potential he showed then. It didn't evaporate. Yes, he's struggled but GG didn't necessarily put him in the greatest positions to achieve offensive success and confidence. And when young offensive players lose confidence their whole game can go to crap. Let's see Bennett under Peters before we write him off.

Things aren't looking bleak yet for Bennett. That's putting too much stock into his recent play and not enough of a view of his entire career. It isn't always just about trends and the last season or two. Bennett was one of the most skilled players in the world at his age in his draft year. At age 19 he scored almost 20 goals as a rookie. Don't let his struggles the last couple years erase your memory of that. Plenty of time for him to regain his offensive confidence and find his NHL groove.

Bennett is 21 guys, about to turn 22. Many players don't even make the NHL before that age. To think he doesn't have room for massive improvement still would be crazy. He's basically still at the dawn of his NHL career. As is Domi. Both players will still probably turn out just fine. I'm not just a Flames homer in this arena, I think its dangerous to write off super skilled young players like Bennett, Domi or even Puljujarvi up north.

Things aren't bleak for Bennett. I know everyone wanted instant success but it doesn't always work out that way for every player. Some players struggle early for various reasons but it doesn't mean their upside and potential has evaporated or disappeared.

Who is left that anyone would want, other than Gallagher?

I like this trade for Arizona. With that being said, both guys could use a change of scenery, and it wouldn't surprise me if either one of them prospers in a new environment.

nice deal for Arizona...

Galchenyuk is an inconsistent player, but when he's on, he's very good

OK, if buffalo is going back to square one (which they might as well), fair enough.

Domi and Bennett aren't really comparable though in terms of production. Domi was on pace for 50pts his first two seasons and even this past season where he played pretty badly still managed 45pts. If his floor is a 50ish point player, so be it, that's a pretty high floor.

Bennett put up 26pts each of his last 2 seasons. If he somehow managed to match Domi's floor in the next few seasons, I would count that as a huge victory for the flames.

Poehling is quite good but he's a C, so can't see Montreal trading him if they're blowing it up.
Unless they trade him for ROR and then sign JT.... who the hell knows whats happening over there

I think ROR is destined for MTL next. Won't be enough to turn them around this year but a step forward

Bergeron is a bum. Galchenyuk is the better player here by far. Bennett isn’t even close talent wise. Habs get worse. Again.
