Sign this long term slightly discounted contract or else

OEL - "Or Else what?"

Edmonton has shown a real interest in trading for you

There is no way this can be true. It is clearly unsubstantiated rumour as my oiler buddy assured me that after OEL and Larsson kicked ass and played so well together in the WC he was for sure going to ask to be traded to the oilers and that the oilers could likely trade Sekera for him as they are more or less the same player. I wont believe this rumour till some reputable source like Makenzie reports it and the deal is signed and delivered.😂😂😂😜

Yeah, the Scottsdale mansion, amazing weather and a line up of broads in Old Town Scottsdale to pick from.

What a terrible life

Can't really blame the guy, this is a great deal for him.
1) Doubt he was going to get more than 8.25 on the open market.
2) Arizona can give him that 8th year.
3) Security that he doesn't have to worry about injury next year.
4) Low taxes, beautiful weather.
5) Not being in a media fishbowl.
Hard to turn down a dumptruck full of money, I'd sign that contract in a second.

On the Yotes side he's overpaid a bit but you have to overpay there I think, plus he's their franchise player.

I'm pretty confident someone out there would offer him at least 8.25 for 7 years. Ufa always overpay. I figure doughty & karlsson would get 10m+ ufa so in comparison to OEL I think that makes sense

Will this be the largest contract the Yotes have ever given out? It is a lot of money but they really needed something like this to stay relevant.

I'm not a huge fan of OEL and consider him a slightly better Bouwmeester. He puts up a lot of points being the best offensive player getting big ice time on a bad team but would only be a 2 or 3 Dman on a good team.

This is actually a great point that for as much as we grow up believing that every player will do anything for a championship in their sport, there's actually a great number that simply look for the things you stated, winning being secondary.

The Coyotes has to pay him. If they ever plan on climbing out of their hole they need to retain their top young players.

The Coyotes were one of the league's hottest teams in the 2nd half of the season.

Sky's the limit at the moment, the lifestyle is just a bonus. He could follow his idol to Detroit as a UFA but will choose to root his career here in AZ.

I'd say internal salary cap is the limit.

Yeah, not so much. The Coyotes were 18th in points percentage in their final 41 games.

I think he meant temperature. Glendale was pretty warm in the spring.

It isn't. The Coyotes follow the same trend over and over. They suck, stockpile picks, get to a point in the rebuild where the media and fans go "OMG, look at this stockpile, they'll be deadly in a few years!!!".

Then the internal cap stops the train from steaming ahead and they end up going back to the beginning of the cycle, stockpiling picks. OEL knows this.
