A few years back a friend of mine got caught up by one of these cancer schemers

She did a fund raiser for Lana Raving, approached her bosses about giving her some art for the silent auction, she made arrangements for a facility for the fund raiser and they made 12,000 that they gave to Raving.

When my late father was alive, his GP never suggested he get a colonoscopy when he did his yearly physicals. My father was later diagnosed with Colon Cancer and by the time they caught it, it had spread to 60% of his liver and he died 6 months later. His death was totaly preventable had his GP done his job.

The above being said, his GP died a few years afterwards from the same disease. It may not be nice but I do remember saying the SOB got what he deserved when I read his obit. And yes I did get raked over the coals for saying that.

My GP ordered a colonoscopy for me during my last physical. She told me straight up it will be several years before I get a call - that's how long the wait is. I am 52.

U.S. cancer group says colon screening should start at 45, not 50

https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/u-s-ca...t-50-1.3951575

Quote:
New guidelines released Wednesday recommend U.S. adults start colon cancer screening earlier, at age 45 instead of 50.

The American Cancer Society's advice puts it out of sync with guidelines from an influential government advisory group, which kept the age at 50 in an update two years ago.

Cancer society officials acknowledge the shift to 45 could cause confusion for doctors and patients but felt strongly that they needed to act now. The advocacy group was influenced by its study, published last year, that found rising rates of colon cancer and deaths in people younger than 50. Experts aren't sure why there has been a 50 per cent increase in cases since 1994.

Well don't I feel lucky then? I have a hereditary genetic marker that makes it likely I'll get colon cancer or something related so I have had a colonoscopy every two years since I was 18! And when I call to book one, I get one in less than 3 months usually. In fact, if I call late, they try to book me in right away.

Depends on the circumstances. If they have reason to suspect you need one earlier (ie based on lab tests) you will be in much sooner. Like within weeks.

Stool-based tests are less accurate than colonoscopies so if you are relying on such tests, they should be conducted more frequently. These tests also have a history of indicating false positives. But these tests are better than no screening at all.

For Newfoundland, it's a pretty big deal because hospitals and doctors in general are hard to reach for the people that live in very small communities. They've had some success with early detection though. Like you said, it's better than nothing.

Completely freaking disgusting

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/...cism-1.4685720

Quote:
A team of First Nations hockey players say they were subjected to racist taunts and treated unfairly by referees at a recent spring hockey tournament in Quebec City.

The Coupe Challenge Quebec AAA was held May 25 to 27. It included the First Nation Elites Bantam AAA team, made up of players aged 13 and 14, from several Cree, Atikamekw and Algonquin communities in Quebec, as well as from First Nations communities in Ontario and Nova Scotia.

According to several parents, players and Elites manager Tommy H.J. Neeposh, players were called "savages" by at least one coach and a number of spectators.

They were also subjected to opposing players mimicking a stereotypical "war cry" on the ice, and players mocking the motion of a tomahawk as the First Nations players passed them near the dressing room off the ice.

Sadly its not the first time that Quebec hockey fans have made the news for disgusting behavior.

They verbally went after a youth team from the united states and then assaulted their team bus a few years back.

I've had 2 done in the last 10 years and have never had to wait that long. Last year it was 8 months. That doesn't sound good when you have to wait 2 years.

Maybe get on a cancellation list.

Yeah, I've had a couple, too. No way it takes that long. Something's wrong.

Geez, this is like a horror movie. I never even knew these zombie ants existed. I spoilered the photo in case some people finds this disturbing, like I did.

CLIMATE CHANGE MADE ZOMBIE ANTS EVEN MORE CUNNING

https://www.wired.com/story/climate-...-more-cunning/

Quote:
A parasitic fungus, known as Ophiocordyceps, invades an ant’s body, growing through its tissues and soaking up nutrients. Then it somehow orders its host to march out of the nest and up a tree above the colony’s trails. The fungus commands the ant to bite onto the vein of a leaf, then kills the thing and grows as a stalk out of the back of its head, turning it into a showerhead raining spores onto victims down below.
Spoiler!

This may be the most depressing I have read in some time:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/17/u...mid=tw-nytimes

A couple of gem quotes:
Quote:
One 17-year-old wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat said she doubted the widely accepted statisticthat one in four college women experience rape or attempted rape — but if it was true, the reason was because “we’re importing rape culture” through illegal immigration and homosexuality.

Quote:
“The most important thing we need to do is build the wall,” said the teenager, Morgan Tapley.

Awful story out of Toronto.

Nada survived sexual slavery at the hands of ISIL. Recently, in Ontario, she recognized the man who'd enslaved her in Iraq. What's he doing here?
