Flying has become a very unpleasant experience all around. I used to fly a lot in the 90's - Canadian, Air Canada, Lufthansa, SwissAir, BA - it was really nice. I remember being delayed in traffic and showing up at the gate 15 minutes before the overseas flight departure; my booked seat already re-sold to a standby; yet they still found a way to get me seated at no cost and no hassle. Nowadays, you need at least an hour and half from the time you enter the airport to the time you're seated. Plus, all the crap of security lines and zoned boarding. And then they just come in and drag you off the airplane. Awful.

He was probably in shock that he was being removed from the flight despite letting the airline know he was a doctor with patients to see in the morning. Maybe cut him some slack and focus your attack on the airline?

See my post. There's only a certain amount of time to have staff work. Fatigue and all that. Situation was handled terribly.

This is on the airline.

That being said, you (the doctor) are an adult. Act like one.

But maybe the security guard hurt the man. I would probably start screaming if a strange man started handling me roughly and causing me pain. What else can you really do? You can't punch back as there are three of them and they have some kind of vague putative authority to do this to you.

Yes all airlines do this. Only one so far has a video of forcibly removing a paying customer who did NOT volunteer to give up their seat. In some cases the cargo is likely more important to ship.

They had volunteers I'm guessing on the flight you are talking about. Not a good practice but no one is hurt or mad about the situation. And I still see this a lot more with United flights than I do with other airlines in my travels through the airports (6 of airports in the last week! Fun!).

And they break guitars.

I'm not an expert, but it kind of looks and sounds like he got tazer-ed there.

According to Reddit, passenger are entitled by law to much higher compensation than what was offered, like $1500 for missed flights for reasons under the airlines control such as overbooking. These guys were all low-balled $400.

Ok, that changes my impression then. It wasn't obvious from the video that he was actually injured.

If only there was another way to deal with this situation.

I am not saying he is a "wuss" and that video is piss poor.

As I said the airline is in the wrong, but there are different ways to deal with the situation.

I just think that a flight is not worth this type of response (by any party).

It can be quite surprising how much belly cargo can make for airlines. An economy fare passenger would lose out to it almost every time.

One of the best ways to get volunteers for overbooked flight is to do an auction. Announce the starting reward amount for volunteers and keep it rising until someone takes it and leaves. Simple, cash reward plus a free re-routed flight. No claims, no complaints. Everyone would be happy and it's fun.

An airline employee thinking it was the right thing to do, dragging a man down an aisle, and police escorting them as if it's ok is so wrong on so many levels.

This is garbage and I can't believe anyone can look at it and out any of it on the passenger. Come on, when did we lose our sense of right and wrong.

Its probably a more Canadian trait to just turn the other cheek while someone takes advantage of you, but I can also understand why he would want to put up some passive resistance here. I doubt he (or anyone else in his situation) would have reasonably expected the situation to escalate to this level of force over something so asinine.

I can imagine the $800 being a flight credit...
