Sonic the movie never looked bad, it always looked kind of fun.
It was just that Sonic the character looked horrendous visually originally.

Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog brought in an outstanding $21 million on Friday and is now expected to deliver a $60+ million four-day performance with some expecting as much as $66 million. Opening day crowds enjoyed what they saw, giving the film an "A" CinemaScore.

I just got home from Sonic. Took my two boys.
Meh.
I am faaaar from the target demographic, so I wasn’t expecting much. Nothing memorable ...but not too painful either. A couple of chuckles.

If you ever wanted to see how much films make in Canada (usually they are lumped in with the USA box office) this site has that info https://playbackonline.ca/2020/02/18...-7-to-13-2020/

How much of an impact with Corona Virus have on the box office? We already saw Bond pushed back to November which may screw up the box office for Eternals, Kong vs Godzilla and Raya and the Last Dragon. Black Widow is supposed to come out in a month and I wonder if it gets pushed back. WW84 is coming out in June I wonder if WB says screw it and makes it the big December release this year.

Unless a miracle happens onward looks to be a bust. Despite 85% critic and 96% viewer only did 40 million domestic opening weekend.

I saw Onward and it was great, nice to see an original IP from them again. My kid loved it too, held his attention better than some of the ones we saw last year.

First projections for Black Widow came out, they are predicting an opening of around $115 for a total of just over $300. I think it's a little low, I can see BW hitting $400.

Its going to be interesting to see if "Marvel fatigue" is going to be a thing or not. If it is, I think this is where it starts.

Marvel is being typically tight lipped about the budget. My first is this will be on par with Ant Man and the Wasp in both budget and box office.

Indeed. Theaters are cesspools of the indigent and disease ridden and that was before a Global Pandemic and Hazmat suits really muffle the ambiance of a film.

Bad take. It's certainly not a bust. Expectations were 40-50 million, so this is definitely on the lower end but not a "bust".

Disney has hidden the budget. If it's anywhere near the upper projection of $200 million, a $30 million opener is pretty bad.

I was trying to say box office bust. As mentioned rumours are around 200 mil budget and they will be hard pressed to get to 180. Corona is only getting worse so who knows how that will change things when it comes to longevity. We are in for an interesting year for the box office.
With the box office struggling Onward could be a big Disney + win keeping subscribers with another movie and not having to leave the house. I am still looking forward to seeing the movie.

I don't think any Disney / Pixar is a bust, even if the box office gross disappoints a bit. They live on through merchandise, licensing, DVD/Blu-ray, streaming rights... it all adds up over time to make those productions worth it regardless of what happens at the box office.
