Unfortunately 2015 and 2016 were the anomaly

This team will return to perennial mediocrity, well falling short of New York and Boston

Why are the Jays floating through media outlets that they are really disappointed they were unable to sign Ohtani? Like seriously STFU. Your fans aren’t that stupid, and the ones that are just ones back off the wagon around early August.

Things about to get much tougher in our division next year. Yankees are about to acquire Giancarlo Stanton. Yikes.

As much as I like donaldson... a package of any one of reyes-flaherty-weaver, plus wacha and grichuk would open up a lot of possibilities for the Jays going forward.

The only way the Jays compete with Boston and NY over the next five years is through pitching.

Picking up a Reyes plus wacha would allow toronto to shop happ. That, and moving morales and pillar (sorry kevin, but I think your defense finally drops this year, just a guess), would be some currency to solidify some other positions, like a short term third base.

Contract the Marlins. That's an awful trade.

Welp..

Red Sox are a good young team.
Yankees are as well, and just added Stanton.

Pretty slim odds to finish top two in the AL East.

Then you have the Astros and Indians as the likely winners of the other two divisions.

So 2nd AL wild card anyone?

What's that? Anaheim just added Ohtani to go along with Trout?

Haha

The Montreal Rays can't get here fast enough.

I don't think the Angels will be anything this upcoming year. Sure they got better, but there are simply way too many holes in that lineup. The Jays can't stand pat though. Either you swing a deal to get better now, or you start the sell off to retool for the future. Standing pat isn't an option.

not sure if there is an all-purpose MLB thread for offseason, but given that one is a former Jay can put it here (sorry if already posted, didn't see it)

Alan Trammell and Jack Morris admitted to the HOF (by the 'modern era' 'veterans' committee)

while he wasn't on the ballot I think they got one of the former Tigers wrong as I would have opted for Whitaker and Trammell

Marvin Miller and Ted Simmons among the notable misses

I thanked that for the humour, not because I want Gibby gone. I have never understood the hate for him from some. I guess some people always want to blame the manager (coach) etc. He is not the issue in Toronto.

He seems to be pretty even keel, players seem to respect him and he, like every other manager out there, gets some decisions right and some wrong. Plus he's funny and seems like a guy that'd be awesome to sit down and have a beer with.

Yup - and would anybody really be that shocked if Harper/Machado ended up signing with one of those 3 teams next year too.

I know Machado has said he wants to move back to SS but my guess is he ends up in New York replacing Chase Headley at 3B.

I was thinking that the Jays should look at tearing this thing down before the Yankees got Stanton, and it sounds like JD Martinez might end up in Boston. The Jays will never be able to spend with those teams, their best chance to is build a winner from within, like the Cubs and the Astros.

Sell off Donaldson now before he gets injured again and his value drops, and if you are going that route you may as well trade Stroman and Sanchez as well, because after that no body on this team is bringing back any kind of return.

Try and stock the cupboards for Guerrero and Bichette.

This will be an interesting few days for the Jays, as they kind of have to pick a direction and commit to it. I can see arguments for both selling and buying, and personally I'm a seller IF the return on Donaldson is big.

But they could be buyers and give this one more shot, and if they go that route - they kind of have to go big to make it worthwhile. Their current team has more than a couple holes to fill to compete with not only the Yankees and Red Sox, but the Indians and Astros as well.

I got two mobile alerts on the Score app:

St. Louis and Toronto has discussed a Donaldson deal
and
CC Sabathia has had discussions with the Jays

If the Jays sign a few players who are neither here nor there, I'll say with only two seasons in, I've lost all confidence in the new management team. Last year they stayed the course and signed a bunch of middle of the road junk that went nowhere. This year to do the same when everyone else is stocking up in a big way, really speaks of second rate management not being able to do much. I'll wait it out, but it's looking like the Riccardi days all over again - neither here nor there with really no plan.

Actually, CC would be a pick-up that would fit and I am hopeful they land him. That is IF they decide they want to try for another year of contention of course.

Yeah, I'd be pretty okey with CC rounding out the rotation. Push Biagini back to the bullpen.
