Wotherspoon needs another shot before he moves on. So basically before the end of the season somehow.

He will be a ufa regardless so not sure there is value to the organization in giving him a shot.

Heat doing themselves a lot of favors today

3-3 at the end of the 2nd though, 2 points for Mangiapane already.

Pretty far from a sure shot. The Flames have given him chances in the past and unlike Kulak hasn't proven he deserves a spot in the NHL.

Heat lose 5-4. Parsons in net for all 5 but looks to have been pulled with less than 5 mins left for Gillies.

Tyler Wotherspoon ASST: Rasmus Andersson, Andrew Mangiapane
Mike McMurtry ASST: Emile Poirier
Andrew Mangiapane ASST: Colby Robak, Josh Healey
Andrew Mangiapane ASST: Oliver Kyllington

Edit: apparently Parsons was injured which is why he didn't finish the game. Not a good day for Flames goaltenders.

Tyler Wotherspoon is still a RFA at the end of this season.

He'll (most likely) be a Group 6 Free Agent: https://www.capfriendly.com/faq#ufa6

Quote:
What is a Group VI UFA?

A player whose contract is expiring and meets all of the following conditions shall become an unrestricted free agent (UFA):
  1. The player is 25 years or older (as of June 30th of the calendar year the contract is expiring).
  2. The player has completed 3 or more professional seasons - qualified by 11 or more professional games (for an 18/19 year old player), or 1 or more professional games (for a player aged 20 or older). This can include NHL, minor league, and European professional league seasons played while under an SPC.
  3. The player has played less than 80 NHL games, or 28 NHL games of 30 minutes or greater for a goaltender.
  • Wotherspoon's 25th birthday is March 12.

  • He is currently in his 5th professional season.

  • As of today, he has played in 30 NHL regular season games and 6 playoff games. The only way he won't become a UFA on July 1 is if he can somehow play in 44 more NHL games by the end of the season. The Flames have 26 regular season games remaining. He could still qualify if he was called up soon and the Flames went on a long playoff run (at least to the Conference Finals). If he doesn't get called up within the next 10 games, it will be mathematically impossible even if the Flames were to play 4 seven game series.

I agree this is most likely his last season in the Flames organization, but he will still find it difficult to make any NHL team imo.

If Hrivik stays up long term, the team is in trouble with Findlay as their top offensive C. They really needed F. Hamilton for some depth.

Might have to try and wait out Arizona and see if they can reclaim Freddie or find someone else via trade.
Well they addressed that today!

Heat trade Cramarossa to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for forward Colin Smith

Smith is a Center the Heat desperately need:

Both players are on AHL deals, so no impacts in terms of NHL clubs.

Looks like Smith and Foo were briefly teammates in Bantam.

Per ECHL transactions Heat have also called up G Ryan Faragher from the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL to presumably preform backup duties for Mason McDonald.

Smith is actually quite the player. Have seen him a few times, good wheels and good vision but gets knocked off the puck easily. Solid trade for the A.

Yes please, I am assuming worse than originally thought as he just came back from injury and was getting shuffled back and forth from Kansas to Stockton

I haven't heard anything about Parsons either but I assume they may have sent him to Calgary for treatment like the did when he was injured in December. Depends on the severity...
