I’m thinking about going for a ride this afternoon, the roads and pathways near me look in good shape.

Not to humble brag it, but got a couple of awesome rides in Maui last week on a rental bike. I saw in strava there have been a couple of other CPers make it up ‘the Wall’ on the West Maui loop. That was hard. But, of course, awesome.

The worst thing is breaking through ice puddles. There's a section in Old Refinery Park where I have to break through the ice, but the puddle is like 6 inches deep, so I'm trying to pedal through ice and water and hope that I don't get stopped, because I'll definitely be getting soaked.

Glad I'm riding 29" tires at the moment, but I'm really excited for the ice and water to go away and can switch to a lighter bike.

I forgot about one deep puddle this morning and hit it at speed. I cracked through a bit but thankfully stayed upright.

Pfft.. pansies! I rode all winter without studs and only bailed once because I was being dumb.

I would not be riding many days without them, my route has a few challenges. Even with them I went down once.

I’ve been reading the Posts on this thread for most of the Winter and it brings back some “disturbing” memories 😜😜 of my commuting Days prior to my retirement. All I can say is “Massive kudos” to you all who stuck with riding during the horrible cold weather. I was back for a month over Christmas and had to ride my Cyclops bike in the basement😩😩!
I am lucky enough to have a Winter Home in SoCal and ride down here with a Group of 7 to 13 old Dudes! (Our motto is “the older we get...the better we were”)! We try to get out at least 3/4 times a week and I typically average 200-225kms a week.

I’ve been a CP member for a while but just noticed the Cycle thread this winter....quite exciting actually....especially the prospect of a Spring group ride get together with like minded CP riders.

Under the 16th ave bridge on Nose Creek?

The one I went through yesterday in Old Refinery park was impassable, had to turn back. Also bailed on a hill that I didn't realize was ice.

Further up Nose Creek. I haven't worked downtown in a year, I go across the Deerfoot on the Sun pedestrian bridge. There's a spot off 32nd on the west side of Deerfoot that had a pretty large amount of standing water.

Wondering if anyone has any good solutions for bike storage in a smaller apartment?
From some pretty basic research, this seems like it might be the best option. Has anyone tried this, or something similar?

I have these for my bikes, they are awesome. Little pricey, but solid and easy to hang and remove the bike. Also swings side to side to fold the bikes against the wall.

I want steady racks so badly, but they’re so darn expensive for all my bikes. We have them at work.

Steady Racks are solid. I had a bunch of guilt after buying 4 for our family bikes but garage is so clean and "empty" with them against the wall.

Alternate the height so they "fold" into each-other.

spent some time yesterday getting my commuter rig and my mtn bike ready to go. had a massive facepalm moment as late last year I realized I had my front tire mounted backwards. The tire was flat, so I pulled it off the rim, reinstalled, poured in some orange seal, and inflated it all, and then realized - that I screwed it up and it was still backwards. What a mess trying to flip it again as now the tire is full of fresh sealant......got it right the second time with a bit of a mess though.

i bought one of those pumps that has an air chamber in it for inflating tubeless tires, sure makes the process easier and saved me hauling out the air compressor.

now just need the trails to dry out - although I want to get some miles in on the commuter first.

Fear not....you are not the first person who has done that and you won’t be the last. When my bike is upside down and I’m changing tires my brain turns to mush trying to figure out tread directionality.......

Thought I’d attach today’s Strava Ride....ONLY to illustrate the ridiculously good riding conditions down here (photos) vs home....especially over this past Winter! Again hats off to all who grind through the long winter months up home! Take it from me....the only advantages of aging....for some of us....is to avoid “real winter”.

I haven’t missed a Flames game on TV this year and the “run they’re on” makes me a very happy Camper..... plus I’m beyond thrilled to wake up everyday and see the Coilers keep gurgling down the Crapper!

Obviously I am a cycling newbie. I am thinking of buying one of those "surplus" bikes from the City auction. Is there a catch where the price is like 30% of the original sticker price?

Also where can I park my bike downtown so it won't get stolen during the day?
