Meh, throw-away game. Every team craps the bed every now and then during a season, even eventual Stanley Cup champs.
In a way, I am glad it happened. Gives the team a bit of a wake-up call. I thought they were very sloppy since the season started and they continually give up way too many high-danger scoring chances. Ottawa just capitalized really well on the chances they got.
Flames didn't play an overall terrible game (minus the lack of discipline), but they just continually give up too much. Hopefully this embarrassing loss forces them to make the necessary adjustments that Gulutzan has been preaching.
Hopefully the rest of our losses come only when the Flames play an Eastern Conference team.
I liked Ferland's response on the Lazar hit (unintentional as it may have been). Team needs to continue sticking up for one another. I saw Brouwer get a bit greasy too, which is really a breath of fresh air to see from him a few games in a row now.
I thought Bennett looked better this game too, and Jagr looked way more dangerous than the previous game. You can tell his timing is still a bit off, but it sure seemed closer than the previous game.
FWIW, Lack played better than I thought coming off the bench when he did. I wasn't expecting much from him, but he looked more than competent as a backup, which gives me some encouragement for tonight and the rest of the season.
