Anyone know of any good best ball or casual tournaments in Calgary? Preferably on the weekends.

Only two I know of are Riley’s Bestball(you need to be a member at a course and is pretty serious) and Blackwolf. Blackwolf has a net and gross side. It’s already started for the year though.

Any recommendations for courses near Niagara Falls? Will have family over from Scotland, so looking for something scenic. Pretty flexible on location (but only Canadian side) - anything between NF and London.
Thanks,

Played Copper Point Saturday for the first time. Had to play it with rentals (it was a last minute thing) but their rentals were Titleist T300's with TS1 driver/3W/5W.
Great track. Great sticks as well.

Was in good condition. But they had just punched the greens which sucked. Got a bit of a discount on that front.
Their new clubhouse is very very nice. Had dinner in there after the round.

Nope. Can’t say I have ever had a course warn in advance.
Silvertip didn’t even warn they had 3 holes under construction….

Wildstone was in great shape. Greens a bit shaggy but they're so difficult that's not all bad.

Played two rounds at Bootleg and one at St Eugene Mission last week. St Eugene was in good shape. I wouldn't say Bootleg was rough but it definitely isn't as far along. Talking to the starter he said they wintered pretty well but everything has more or less stalled as they have had a cool spring so far. I found the greens were okay but there are some dead patches on the fairways which is a let down at first but then you realize the course is still about on par with anything around Calgary this time of year anyhow.
Golf is a funny game and I learned more about myself too. I hadn't even been to the range prior to our first round so basically hit a bucket of warm up balls and then teed off. My game was pretty much on par with last year and my score varied by 6 shots high to low through the three rounds, not much of a difference.
The tees I played made a huge difference. At St Eugene we were paired up with another couple and he wanted to play the blue tees so I did as well. Got tired of having to hit 6 irons, hybrids etc. in my second shot so moved up one set of tees after a few holes. Much more fun hitting shorter irons into the green (even though I still cannot hit the green) on your second shot. My scores were slightly better and it was way more fun.
Still need to figure out lots of things in my game. On the second day I didn't hit a single fairway, pulled every drive but one dead right off the tee. Next day I hit every fairway but two. First day was a mix of straight pulls and massive banana slices.

Any suggested drills for aiming while at the range? Other than the obvious pick a target and try to hit over it? I seem to be striking the ball well right now and it's travelling straight (no hook / slice), but sometimes I'm well off to the left and other times I'm not. Trying to figure out if it's a grip thing where I'm closing the face or if I'm just not aiming properly each time.

Alignment sticks are your friend. Also you could try picking out two yardage signs that mark the left and right edge of the fairway and try to be between them.
I naturally set up well right of where I think the target is. The more left I force myself to aim, the more closer I hit it to my intended line.
Ps. Lanny will likely say this is terrible advice, so best to listen to him.

I might try this. I've developed a straight pull on my drives and generally hit my irons straight but off line. My fear by doing this is that I will actually hit one straight (or worse will slice it) and be in even more trouble.

I recently ordered a SKLZ Gold Flex Golf Swing Trainer Warm-Up Stick on the advice of a friend.
Anyone have any opinions on this swing stick?

Asked him in November on his turf. He didn't show.

Yah I guess I meant here in Alberta. Places down south will post months in advance so if you are making a trip you can plan around if needed. That and overseeding.

Agree with you. The only course I know that posts it on the internet in Calgary is The Winston.

Actually, that’s fairly good advice. Basic, simple advice.
Another drill to try is picking an intermediary target about 20 yards ahead of you, and trying to hit the ball consistently over that spot. Start with half shots, move to three quarter shots, and then full shots. Do this with the short shot until you are consistently hitting over that mark, then move to the three quarters. Rinse and repeat with the full swing. This will help you quickly develop the muscle memory for keeping the club in the slot and the club face square to your target.

You asked me? Let’s be honest here. You asked me to meet you in the parking lot of a 3rd rate executive, late afternoon in the winter, when the days are short. It was a threat, not an invitation to golf. When I called you on it, you called me a coward. But keep trying to spin it.
