My last bill with the reading on Nov 17 was 10GJ of gas for $130. Electricity was higher at 976kwh for $150. 2300 sqft two story house
To use 70GJ you must either have a mansion or something is definitely wrong

Since we're all still sharing, my last billing period was Nov 26 to Dec 29, capturing the most miserably cold days over the holidays. For my 62-year-old, ~1000 sq ft bungalow I used 17.61 GJ (actual meter reading), and at $4.09/GJ that's $72.03. Including admin charges, delivery charges and carbon tax my total gas bill was $202.57.
70+ GJ is nucking futs. Gotta be a reconciliation of estimated usages on previous bills, and/or a metering problem.
EDIT: For comparison, my electricity was 203 kWh @ 6.69 ¢/kWh, for a total of $13.58 energy charges and a total $53.27. In the summer my gas usage drops off to a trickle, less than 1 GJ, and electricity <150 kWh. My July bill from last year was 141 kWh and 0.95 GJ, for only $8.87 in electricity energy charges and $3.40 in natural gas energy charges. Total charges including fees were $47.45 and $52.24, respectively.

Just curious because I have a similar house, what is your electrical bill for the same period? My bill is coming in about 5 days, would like to compare.

Wow, your electricity is low. Mine's 800-900 in the winter. But my wife and I both work form home, and she has an electric heater that gets too much use! Still, maybe I need an electric meter to see if something else is killing me on that front.

The almost $50 Carbon Tax (Wealth Tax) on my bill was a nice Christmas present for Justin.
I'm only billed to Dec 20th. The Next bill with the real cold weather is going to really hurt.
Locked in for Gas and Electricity thankfully.

Yeah, I really don't use a lot. I'd wager the vast majority of my electrical consumption is my 28-year-old fridge, and in the winter, the furnace fan. I don't have A/C, nor do I have any electrical space heating. My domestic water heater is just a conventional 40-gallon gas-fired tank, and my gas use in the summer is indicative of how much gets used for that (a pittance, compared to space heating in the winter). I'm a stickler for keeping lights and other electrical draws off unless needed.
I also live alone and work from the office, so that's undoubtedly contributing to my comparatively very low use.

Ohh man...
- 3900ft of heated, finished living space
- 2xhigh-eff furnaces with HRVs
- 4 Fridges/Freezers
- Heated bathroom and all tile floors on all three levels
- tankless HW
- Hot tub
- 900Wh of hobby crypto mining
Electricity
Drumroll please....
Even after removing ~500kWh for the mining, I am about 1,800kWh.
Thankfully the mining pays my whole enmax bill! and glad I fixed my power price a while ago.
Natural gas
Nat gas looks good... Definitely need to reduce the power usage!

Used Dec 04-Dec 31 (9.74 GJ @ 3.790000 $/GJ) $157.40
Used Dec 03-Jan 05 (2271.00 KWH @ 0.067900 $/KWH) $406.53
Good lord this new garage heater is a hog. 1700sq ft shouldn't be this high, time to find out what else is drawing so much power.

If its a 220 electric garage heater, those are the least efficient and biggest power hogs ever.
Shut it off and get a gas forced air - you'll pay for it in no time.

I have an 800 sqft two story townhouse (shared wall with neighbour). Haven't got my bill for the coldest days yet but my last bill was:
Energy Charge ........................................95.000 kWh @ $ 0.062900 / kWh ...............$ 5.98 *
(Nov 2 to Dec 2)
Energy Charge .............................................4.380 GJ @ $ 3.633862 / GJ ...............$ 15.92 *
(Dec 1 to Dec 15)
Energy Charge .............................................2.500 GJ @ $ 4.045075 / GJ ...............$ 10.11 *
(Nov 18 to Nov 30)
BigNumbers lives up to his name.

Heaters are more or less 100% efficient all the time. I guess the light that they emit can be considered inefficient, but even that is radiated energy.
Gas is much cheaper per joule though, totally agree.

Yep Electricity is expensive.
1 KWH = 3600 kJ = .0036 GJ * $4 = 1.4 cents /kWh in gas / 80% efficiency = 1.8 cents so 1/3rd to 1/4 the cost ignoring fees.

Yeah, the only way electricity can be competitive is with an advanced heat pump but even the best cold weather air-to-air ones will lose efficiency in the temperatures Calgary can see in winter.

If you lock in your purchase price for 6c or whatever it is now, do you still get the unlocked credit price, or do they lock you to the 6c for selling as well?

Because you are microgen do you have to take the floating rate? It looks like you get crushed in the winter at 11 cents and 15 cents per kWh when your panels are limited.
