Again, just curious to know how many GJ's others have consumed and paid in total on their most recent bill?

It is possible that you have a much larger house and/or garage than many people but 72gj, even 50, is a huge amount. My usage is usually 15 or 16 in the winter and has peaked at 20.

Do you know if your meter is read regularly or are your previous bills based on estimates and maybe this bill is an actual reading and it involves a bunch of catchup due to under estimation? I remember about 15 years that happened to me. Our usage was estimated for a long time and was significantly under every month. They finally came out for a reading and we had a $1300 bill as every month was about $150 short of actual usage.

I switched to ATCO from DE in October and this is our second bill. Both were actual readings, supposedly. It makes zero sense to me.

I’ve never exceeded 20 GJ with a generic 2000 sqft attached unheated garage built this century.

Check your last DE bill meter number you were billed with to see if it’s some billing gap between your providers. I know my Enmax is currently only billed to Nov 25 so if I left I’d be about a month behind.

I would wager its a meter delay issue. I've had corrections in the past where they missed a month or 2 of actual "hard" readings and when they finally pushed it through, I had a huge bill as it "true-d up" to the meter again.

I used 21 GJ Nov 18 to Dec 16 and that includes a well heated garage, 2 gas fireplaces that run a good amount and 3,400 sq ft heated on 2 mid-eff furnaces. Based on the "neighbourhood rank" Im always a heavy user compared to my peers, so to use anything close to 72GJ on a "normal" house would be loco.

What'd the floating gas rates end up being for Enmax for Nov and Dec? (for anyone still floating) The online lookup tool from the utilities commission sucks and gives broad averages.

From my bills it was:
Nov 1 to Nov 16 @ $4.756/GJ
Nov 17 to Nov 30 @ $4.079/GJ
Dec 1 to Dec 15 @ $3.63/GJ

Plus the $0.99/GJ transaction fee.

So fixed at 4.09 was the way to go.

Looks like the gas rates aren't really going to bring a big bump, it's the 15c electricity rate that is probably causing the big bills.

Yah my $0.03/kWh just expired but I locked in at $0.0599/kWh (with option to cancel) for the next 3 years. Will have to see how that goes.

6.810 GJ @ $4.37 for an energy charge of $29.82

Add on the $70 in fees and you get $110.

I would have saved $2 by locking in.

I have the same rate and it expires next year. Hopefully they will offer it again since their site has it over $7 now.

Nov 15 - Dec 15 Total GJ used: 18.45 @ $4.09/GJ (fixed rate) = $75.46
Total ATCO & Other Fees: $81.42
Carbon Tax & GST: $48.39
Total: $205.27

Last month was $172 on 13.5 GJs

Typical 2100 sq ft two storey although Enmax always tells me I use more than similar houses in my area.

Just got my bill for the period of November 18 to December 15. Enmax. This is before the cold snap, obviously.

Usage was 10.64 GJ, locked in this fall for a fixed rate of $4.09/GJ.

Energy charge was $43.52, add in a bunch o' fees, and the gas portion of my bill totalled $131.93.

One thing to keep in mind about the floating rates is that they add 0.99/GJ, and that is not added to the fixed rate. So basically add a buck to any floating rates if you're going to compare to fixed.

My total bill with Enmax (electricity, natural gas, water, recycling, etc.) was $432. My 12-month high was $438 in March 2021, and my lowest was in September 2021 at $339.

Small-ish 1350 square foot house, 2 adults and a 10-year-old. Fairly disciplined with the thermostat, frequent gas fireplace use, permanent working from home.

Add another 6.80 for the $/GJ fee in the variable rate and you are down a Starbucks.

Average 1700 sq ft two story home.

Nov 20 - Dec 20

Gas 9.76m GJ on a fixed rate of $4.09
Electricity 896 MWH (or whatever the units are) at fixed rate.

Both on Enmax but this is the first bill with gas from Enmax so can't compare to previous use. Electricity use was relatively steady for this time of year.

Was a little shocked to see the carbon tax was roughly 50% of my gas charge, about $20.
