If I had to choose between the Green Line and the Arena I know which one I'd choose and I wouldn't even have to think very hard about it.
Regardless of how you feel about the City funding the arena I think we can all thank the UCP for this given their funding decisions on the Green Line.

This is a smart move and good governance. The Flames can ask their UCP buddies for the 300 million.

Kind of inevitable with the province cutting funding and business owners in full revolt. This is an easy populist move for Woolley.

What would the process be for cancelling, and would it be a game changer for the Green line?

He was against the arena deal when it was voted for if I recall correctly
This motion will go no where in my opinion

Great cancel the arena for the benefit of those who live on the green line and will actually be able to use it.

The city has not yet signed the agreement with the Flames so it would simply be a matter of backing away from the deal. I think I read Council would need 10 votes to cancel though so I'm not sure it's going to go anywhere.
The UCP reduced funding for the Green Line in the first 4 years from $555 million to $75 million so it would certainly help fill the gap.

Not my understanding,
https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...l-nhls-flames/
"The city and Calgary Sports and Entertainment announced last week a tentative agreement that equally splits the cost of a $550-million sports and entertainment centre.
The 35-year agreement keeps the Flames in Calgary for that term, with options to extend the agreement."
Remember this article is from July 30, 2019.

Right, so they came to a tentative agreement and Council directed the City to go forward with that, but the full agreement was not been signed (apparently).

Tentative agreement is in place and they continue to negotiate in good faith.
Sounds like the plan was to execute the agreement by the end of this week?
