Has he ever called you his most respected friend? If so, I'd be worried.

God. Just fire the guy.
I think being in charge of Hot Dogs is a good fit for him.

Someone post that Katz "I can't quit you" picture lol. What is wrong with the idiots up north? Soon they'll have more managers than they will have players.

Yeah, because, when you've got a bunch of young, talented highly-touted highly selected but underperforming players with rumours that they have character issues and aren't adjusting well to pro hockey life...

YOU WANT THE GUY WHO DID THE SEGUIN TRADE.

How is this not a win for Calgary Flames fans?

I'm not sure 'respect' means what your friend thinks it means.

Good person - yes, by all accounts. Good hockey executive - well.......

Are you saying Chiarelli is not a good manager?

I guess we're going back to the era where Alberta will be the hardest place to get 2 points from. Both Calgary and Edmonton will probably have a franchise of elite stars for many years to come. Except we'll get there first. Edmonton still needs to address their entire blue line and goal

Just like having the Guy who who did the Kessel trade isn't a win for Edmonton Oiler fans. One bad move doesn't define/take away all the good moves he's done.

Because, as bad as you seem to think Chiarelli is for trading Seguin (also essentially traded by our very own PHO), he is a massive upgrade on anything they've had in the last 15 years.

Just getting rid of Lowe is a loss for Flames fans. Adding an actual competent person is no good.

Actually, the first Seguin trade was a win for Boston.

Hall - McDavid - Eberle
Draisaitl - RNH - Yakupov
Pouliot - Yakimov - ??
?? - ?? - ??

Klefbom - ??
Nurse - Schultz

At the very least, it helps with optics. Chiarelli is a pretty big name, probably has a decent network already, and has recent success. Not every trade that a GM makes is going to be a win, but if you at least have built decent relationships around the league, you stand a better chance of not getting taken advantage of. Chiarelli likely has Lowe beat there.

I don't think it fixes everything quickly, but it's a start. Something they haven't had in years. I am actually really interested to see what he does. I expect some sort of rebuild right away and given that he has no attachment to any of the players, I think anyone is fair game.

I can't help but think McDavid's people had something to do with this.

"Hey look, you better show us that you are serious about turning that club around, or Connor isn't putting on that jersey on draft day...".

I also wonder still why Boston got rid of him so easily. I know Boston barely missed the playoffs, but I think with most GMs, the overall body of work would have bought him some goodwill.

He's handed out some questionable contracts, made some questionable trades, created a difficult cap situation for Boston and has generally seemed overly fascinated with guys like Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell at the expense of the guys he had who were actually, yknow, good at hockey.

Then there was the time he traded a likely perennial Hart candidate away for no particular reason.

I mean it's not like they hired Dave Nonis, but I don't think this is by any means a big win for Edmonton.

The sad part is that with Lowe no longer his boss I just dont see any way MacTavish keeps his job.

That guy is among the single most incompetent NHL executives of all time.

I mean, if you can be replaced by a monkey with a fax machine then perhaps you arent as qualified for your job as you might like to think...

I dunno. Dubnyk out of Edmonton = good, in Edmonton = no good. Same for Cogliano (he was good for the Ducks), Perron (before and after Edmonton), Reider (well, he never got the chance to be no good), etc.

So Maybe Edmonton affects Chiarelli more than he does them.
