Backhands are tougher to read for opponents (especially goalies) because no one knows exactly where they are going. Including the shooter.

Well that just isn’t accurate at all. Jesus I play beer league and am not very good and can pick corners at will on the backhand. Ever see Crosby fire one? Different players are more comfortable with different aspects of the game. There isn’t a right or wrong way to shoot or pass.

That is indeed true for Crosby, because he has minimal curve on his stick.
Of course, his wrist shoot is just as good.
With most players having quite the curve on their stick, backhands tend to me less accurate.
Except for you and Crosby I guess.

I can also pick corners with the backhand and I don't even play anymore. It's much easier for the guy shooting or passing than it is for the goalie and defence.

If backhands result in the shooter not knowing where the puck is going to end up… wouldn’t that mean we want the player to be passing from a position where he knows where the puck is going to end up - AKA their forehand

No just for anyone who practices it occasionally. You’re correct about the goalie, but to say professional hockey players (of all abilities) don’t know where their backhands are going is ridiculous.

It boggles my mind how people think that Brodie or any player can pass just as accurate and hard on their backhand as their forehand. A good break out requires a great first pass which needs to be both hard and accurate, you just can’t do that as well on your backhand.

Babcock sums it up pretty good

Have the two of you just.. never seen TJ Brodie make a pass on his backhand? You're just arguing generalities when we've got a guy who can complete 175 foot sauce passes on the tape on his backhand - among other things.

I think Brodie’s downfall is directly related to no longer playing with Gio. Same as Hamilton’s sudden rise.
Gio might be one of the more under rated players in the NHL.

Could actually see Bergevin making that deal.

Pacioretty is 29 - 1 year left at $4.5M
Brodie is 27 - 2 years left at $4.65M
Personally I would prefer somebody younger, and with a bit more term left if we do trade Brodie.
Could see Treliving pushing for something like Pacioretty + 2nd (Montreal has 4 this year) for Brodie though.

I think Treliving can do better than one year of Pacioretty for Brodie but if the Habs added a 2nd rounder that would make some sense as the Flames likely are trying to get back into the first three rounds of the draft.

I think it'd be a good deal, though he is in line for a good raise in a year's time. I don't think Tre makes the deal without something agreed.

I would take that trade, just sucks he's only got a year left and then will either be massively overpaid or gone altogether.
Would much rather Brodie for Gallagher, but that seems unlikely.

Brodie + Jankowski (or Bennett) + Kylington for Patches + Gallagher + 2nd
Montreal I'm sure would be intrigued by young Center Jankowski - especially given how bad their Centre depth is.

I agree we should be aiming for better than Pacioretty but that the need to recoup draft picks may play a role.
Also - and this is based in no actual facts or anything based in reality outside of my own gut feeling / how I would feel personally - but I feel like Brodie maybe mentioned that if he was moved that a move back to Eastern Canada to be closer to extended family would be preferred if possible.
With his first baby on the way, and with his fiancee's open battle with MS, I feel like that might be something the player and family would be open to just so they can be closer to extended family for support.
I'll repeat I have no inside knowledge of this but just a gut feeling that I have had based on what has been shared publicly.

Geez. The Habs have FOUR 2nd rounders in this draft.
Brodie for Pacioretty and a 2nd (Habs, Hawks, Leafs, Caps) works for me.

His downfall is directly related to being a skating, long-pass rover whose skillset benefits from being on the right side playing in a stationary, short pass forward-oriented system where he plays the left side.
You wouldn't take Bobby Orr (who also favoured his off-side, BTW) and make him try and be Lidstrom. Different players have different skillsets and you have to utilize their skillsets, not force them away from them.
Re: Pacioretty for Brodie - how does that solve our RW issues? Pacioretty is a left shot.

You aren’t wrong that he plays LW.
But I’ve seen this left shot comment a lot. 2/3rds of hockey players shoot left. You can fill the RW hole with a right winger. Lots of RW shoot left. Handedness doesn’t matter.
