That remains, precisely, the criteria for the Hart.

I know it was because they thought they wouldn't be able to afford him, but man, Chicago has to be in pain watching Panarin right now.

Bowman's cup wins are going to be his legacy, but he has destroyed that team with bad trades over the last three years.

Draisaitl isn't even the best or most valuable player on his team, as has been mentioned.

Didn't Panarin play mostly with Ryan Strome, and then Strome's production ballooned from his usual 0.4-0.5 points per game all the way up to 0.84?

Haha

I sure hope Strome sends Panarin a big ole thank you card after he gets his next RFA contract this off season. Maybe a box of chocolates too.

Weren't the Flames in on Panarin when he came over from Russia a few years ago? But then he chose Chicago? (of course)

I hate to say this but Draisaitl had a significant lead in the Art Ross race and probably deserves the Hart.

Good, give him the Art Ross. The Hart is a different trophy for a different purpose.

A lot of people would disagree...including many of the actual voters

I'd say his case is about as strong as Kucherov's last year. If the Oilers were sitting in their usual spot in the standings, Draisaitl wouldn't win but I think he probably will

Not even close. Last year Kucherov opened a 30-point gap on Steven Stamkos for the TBL lead in scoring, and he scored 80 EVS points.

I think it was the bad signings that forced him to make bad trades.

NHL.com Finnish website has apparently leaked that Draisaitl has won the Hart trophy ahead of tonight's announcement

That's awesome. Two Hart Trophy winners, one of them being back-to-back Ted Lindsay winner as well, multiple Art Ross trophies between them.... and they still miss the playoffs.

The Oilers are the most ridiculous team.

I'm sure both Tampa and Dallas would prefer their current situations over having 2 Hart trophy winners in their lineup. 2 superstars and 40ft of crap doesn't get you to the promise land.

200 ft play needs to start being considered more for the Hart Trophy.

Great you led the league in points but if you are on the ice for the most goals against in the league for forwards at even strength are you really the best player in the league?

Panarin: GF-89 GA-49
Draisaitl: GF - 80 GA - 77

I know what one of those two players was likely more valuable last year.

This trophy is basically an Art Ross 2.0 so it’s not surprising he won. He had a great season but I will still argue that he’s not even the MVP of his own team, let alone the entire NHL.

Draisaitl winning is a huge blow to intelligent discourse and further perpetuates the insane narrative that points are all that matters for forwards, regardless of defensive contribution.
