Default Recommend an auto mechanic

Apologies if there is a related thread, I did not see one.

Just noticed a slipping transmission followed immediately by a check engine light this morning. We haven't required anything beyond standard scheduled maintenance on a vehicle in years. I typically go to the dealer for routine maintenance but, I'm wondering if that's the best option here.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks.

2014 Dodge Journey with the v6 about 120,000km and never an issue. Been a really solid vehicle for us.

South of Fish Creek in SW.

I have a bluetooth obd2 and checked code, it's a P0734.

Have you checked the tranny fluid or seen any signs of leaks? Could just be low. Also see if it is dirty or smells burnt.

No indication of leak.

Interestingly, there is no dip stick to check transmission fluid. LOL.

Douglas Square Auto Service.

(403) 720-8010.

I've used them for years.

There are quite a few vehicles out there that have sealed transmissions which are supposed to be lifetime units and as such don't have dipsticks. We've had two vehicles like that.

I’ll echo Dion’s suggestion. We have taken a number of different vehicles to midsun and have referred them to many friends and never had any issues. They are always honest and transparent with their quotes and I’ve never had any issues with the quality of their work.

Most Toyota non trucks are built like that. About four years and 25k into ownership, I had a shady mechanic try to convince me that I needed a full transmission flush....I did not.

Beware there are some shady auto mechanics out there.

I'm hoping to find the Toyota version of TuneDub or Allmakes for Subaru - an independent shop dedicated to mainstream Toyotas of 5-15 yrs vintage. Is there such a thing?

(Basically a Calgary version of "The Car Care Nut" Youtube Channel)

Don @ 41st auto is pretty much the Toyota version of George @ Tunedub. My Toyota friends swear by him for anything from their wife's Camry to interesting RHD Helix stuff

Pro-active Automotive is supposed to be good as well
