Everyone was saying the same about Duehr. Lets wait and let him acclimate before suggesting anything other than...welcome and good luck!

CP is full of HockeyDB scouts. This guy sucks! Look at his stats on HockeyDB. Oh Wow! We didn't draft this other guy? Look at his stats on HockeyDB.

This year, in the top men's league in Sweden, he put up 8 points in 45 games for a team (Brynas) that finished in the bottom-2, and was just relegated. Sounds paltry, but that's 7th for U-20 players, 20th in pts/gp. His ice-time was all over the place, from 7:07, up to 17:29.
In his draft year, he was with the MODO organization, and put up 18 pts in 14 games (3rd in the J20 League for draft-eligibles, ahead of guys like Rosen, Dower-Nilsson, Ostlund, Lysell, and Forsell), and even had time in the Hockeyettan (Sweden's ECHL, with 12 pts in 11 games, where he was 3rd for draft-eligibles, 1st in pts/gp). Since his draft year, he's been with Rogle (J20 mostly) ,and Brynas (mostly SHL).

Good post. When I saw they signed him, i immediately thought he might have struggled, but they still believe in what they saw at the draft and wanted to get him over here/away from there to develop him.

From the highlights I’ve see of his in the SHL, he’s got some speed and good hands + shot. He’s only 19!! I would not be surprised if he does quite well in the AHL next year

Let's see how the kid adapts to the North American game.

People like to see prospects dominate kids their own age. Not see them struggle playing against professionals.

The SHL is a man's league. The Caliber of Hockey is better than the AHL, it is widely regarded as the 3rd best league in the world. Getting 45 Games at 19 is not a small achievement.

Some people in here actually don't like this signing? Lol. He's 19, seems like he has good tools based on the scouting reports and people in this thread who've been following him. I'd rather sign our draft picks and work on developing them than wasting contracts on over the hill veterans that won't contribute much to the team

Good luck to him and welcome to Calgary!

I'm glad he's over here where he can play a substantial role on the Wranglers this season and next. Hopefully his production is more a case of not getting the minutes in Sweden.

I don’t think anyone hates the signing
Some people just don’t expect much based on what he has done so far.
Maybe he’ll surprise us. Nobody expected much from Durher and he is doing great.

I always thought the AHL was the 2nd best league in the world, with SHL, KHL, Liiga fighting for third.

Nor should you on pretty much any pick out of the top 15.
2nd round picks average about 1 of every 3 that ends up in the NHL, and much lower if you expect an impact NHLer.
Have never understood the need to post the negative side of any equation we all understand.

Some sources had Stromgren going as high as the 1st round in 2021. I am glad the Flames are taking over his development at this point because I am sure the raw skill hasn't just disappeared.

It's not like the Wranglers are a successful AHL organization.

There could probably be a healthy debate that the AHL is better than the SHL, the only real head to head comparison is at the Spangler Cup. The last time was 2013. The Rochester Americans never won a game.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AHL_pa...e_Spengler_Cup
A part of the Reason I argue the SHL is better is because they have a relegation system. It is always the best 14 teams in Sweeden. The AHL is a far less saturated league. Maybe the best teams *the wranglers* could win a super series, but if the worst teams faced off it would always go to the SHL team.
If I had to rank them it would be
1 NHL
2 KHL ( although it is a less talented league since the war in Ukraine)
3 SHL
4 AHL
5 Liiga
6 Swiss A league
7 DEL
8 Extraliga
9 NCAA
10 CHL

Dube was a later 2nd rounder and he blossomed at the WJC
That’s how people noticed he may be an NHLer
So it’s not always a given

Not what I said at all.
2nd round picks are no guarantee, we all know that.
Happy to have a prospect in the fold and see where it goes.
Pointing out you're not hopeful is just posting negativity for the sake of negativity in my mind.
