2.35 and 0.924 in 47 games without a single shutout is bonkers.

For those that argue against bringing him up and letting him ride out the playoffs in the AHL, I think you are missing an important point. Obviously there is value in the playoff run and since you guys are likely to miss the playoffs, he will be with them for that regardless.

But a lot of the value for development is getting to the next league to see how you fare and what you need to work on. Back in the QC days, you would see someone go up for a couple games and come back down with renewed fire. There is so much more value in that than continuing to grind the AHL. This board loves to harshly judge players for training camp performance and earning their spot, well how about the team actually put a player in the best position to hit training camp ready to go next fall?

Not to mention a week or two of NHL paychecks would probably put him in a better headspace!

4 of the biggest misses for me. I thought they all were gonna be studs.
Don't forget Leland Irving, yet another 1st round goalie pick that didn't work out.

One of these goalies is not like the others, and it's probably the Conn Smythe winner.

No love for Brent Krahn?

Our former 1st round, 9th overall draft pick?

This has happened this season with Duehr, let alone "in the QC days".

Duehr was with the Wranglers all year, got a call up and a few games (with success), then was sent back for a few games. I saw him in action for the Wrangler's on that AHL stint, and he was faster, better positioned, and had a quicker shot- than he had been at the start of the Wrangler's season. Then he got recalled again and look where he is. He's a lock for next season.

The same needs to happen for Wolf now. Give him 2-3 games up, let him face NHL shots and see what happens. Then send him back to get some (hopefully) glory in the AHL. This guy doesn't need any more seasoning in the minors, he's ready.

Man I was sold on Ortio pretty hard.

He was from Kipper's hometown. Looked like Kipper on the ice. Even moved like Kipper.

Couldn't stop a puck like Kipper though.

Since Vernon, we've had the rights to 2 decent goalies under the age of 25 (unless I'm forgetting someone).

Craig Anderson (18) and JS Giguere (20).

That's a short list with 0 success from either in Calgary. We are due.

I get the trepidation but with Irving, Ortio, Gillies, etc, we were always squinting to find optimism based on draft position, despite none of them really standing out or making the case. Wolf isn't just making the case he's blowing the doors off. I think it's a whole other thing and there's some genuine cause for excitement.

I understand what you are trying to say, but Gillies put up good numbers and was drafted in the 3rd round (had hip problems). Ortio was drafted in the 6th round.

Pretty strange that we've spent so many first and second round picks on goalies that amounted to nothing, yet the lowest pick we use could turn out the best.

Yeah I guess I'm mainly thinking of Irving there. We wanted him to be great based on where we took him but he never showed anything like what Wolf has shown.

Yeah, I just meant back in the days as in the time where I watched every single AHL from the front row and could really tell those subtle differences.

I still feel bad for Tim Ramholt. He was the other end of the spectrum. Had a single shift and was on for a goal against, Keenan benched him and he never again played in the NHL. You could see visible frustration in his game after that. I empathized with him.

He is the #1 ranked goal-tending prospect in the world and clearly has the stats on his side too. https://thehockeywriters.com/the-top...ts-in-the-nhl/

Remember when Nail Yakupov was the #1 ranked prospect?

Nothing matters till he proves himself in the NHL. As Flames fans, we've been wounded deeply before by highly touted goaltending prospects falling flat on their face.

I think we got Dwayne Roloson when he was ~25. That guy turned out alright too.

I think you just have to live in the present.

I’ve never seen a goalie with Wolf’s track record of accomplishments before playing a game in the NHL in the past 25 years.

Best goalie in the CHL
Best goalie in the AHL

for many of the other Flames goalie prospects, hype preceded and exceeded performance; that isn't true for Wolf
