I’ve never really thought of pitching as being part of defense. The pitching definitely wasn’t good but the fielding was.

Before watching the highlights I thought with 19 hits they knocked the hell out of the ball. Instead the highlights showed poor pitching and bloop single after bloop single. Hate to say it but 5 singles by Springer was a deception - 1 of 5 wasn't a blooper (I believe). Seems like both teams pitching wasn't up to par but the bats weren't all that alive - just a game of bloop anomalies.

They don't ask how, they just ask how many. Hitting in the majors is hard. Do not poo poo a 5 for 6 day. That's an exceptional day no matter what.

Yep and some days you hit the ball on screws right into the SSs glove.

Great way to open the season. Romano is ice cold.Kiermaier showing off his defensive skills early.

Not getting ahead of myself because I wouldn't have given it a second thought had they lost given it's opening day but wins like today can turn a good season into a great one. Many (most) seasons that isn't a game they win, very promising start. Way to grind it out.

The offence and defence largely came as advertised. That was awesome to see. I expect the pitching to be better but Pop, Swanson, and Romano were great. I bet that this start will go down as among the worst two or three starts Manoah will have this season.

How about KK and his catch in the 8th, then his clutch single in the 9th and then the most amazing part was going 1st to 3rd on Springers bloop single in the 9th.

KK was great yesterday. Base running was exceptional by the Jays. Last year's Jay's team would have made a ton of base running mistakes and lost the game.

Which game was crazier, this year's opener or last year's? The 7-0 deficit then subsequent comeback...

Former Jays opening day stats

Teoscar Hernández 0/4 with 2 Ks
Lourdes Gurriel Jr 1/4 with 1 K
Gabriel Moreno 1/2 with 1 K and 1 RBI

Depends on what you define as crazy

The one last year wss more of a poorly played game where errors and walks by a bad Rangers team let the Blue Jays come back and win a game they didn't really play well in. Yesterday the team played better, but had to hold off another team that's pretty dangerous throughout their lineup. So I think yesterday is a much better game for fans with both teams scoring consistently thru the game and multiple lead changes.

Last year's is crazier to me because it's a comeback that shouldn't happen if the other team doesn't play poorly.

I guess it was more a statement that they weren't clean hits which on the surface looks like. Really a really lucky 5 for 6 day.

Flaherty walks 4 and hits 1 in the first 2 innings and the Jays don't capitalize. oof
