Upcoming Wrangler RFA/UFAs (Who Gets Qualified/Re-Signed)

We are at the 50 Game Point of the Season, with 22 remaining at the time of this post, who do you think is a lock to get qualified/re-signed…who do you need to see more from?

List of players with expiring contracts is below.



I wouldn’t be surprised if Matthew Phillips declines a qualifying offer, and requests to be set free.

I think locks to be qualified are:
Emilio Pettersen
Walker Duehr
Ben Jones

On The Fence:
Nicolas Meloche

Will not be qualified:
Martin Pospisil

I don’t see any of the pending UFAs returning and will seek opportunities elsewhere.

Matty will be a Group 6 UFA. He's good as gone, IMO.

Emilio, Duehr, and Jones will likely be qualified. Marty is 50/50. Tough with how much he's been injured.

As you suggested, the rest are likely gone. Meloche has not played well enough to be extended, IMO.

Prior to looking up the list, I thought for sure Phillips was a UFA, cap friendly had him in as an RFA…

I feel they will likely not resign Meloche mainly because of his age and likely wanting to open up a roster spot for someone younger.

I was also going to include Mackey in the list, but he hasn’t played for the Wranglers this year…he has barely played for anyone this year.

Cap Friendly has Phillips listed as an RFA because they don't take Group 6 free agents into account until the season is over. We know that he can't play enough NHL games to remain an RFA, so he will be a Group 6 UFA if he's unsigned before July 1.

I can't see both Kerins and Nikolaev in the ECHL next season, so there's two slots.

Decisions will have to be made regarding Beck, Huckins, Jordan, Koumontizs, Nodler and Whynot.

I could see Beck and Huckins getting some sort of contract, maybe Whynot (I still doubt it), and the rest will be cut loose.
