I’m not understanding the issue - the lady who is an educator expressed what she believes to be true about kids being exposed to Porn in elementary. For myself several decades ago this was certainly true and I know it to still be true today. My own child saw it first hand one day in class when a schoolmate brought up a porno site in the middle of class to much hilarity and terror cos we all know what’s on the side bars of many sites.
So why was this lady forced to resign for this? For speaking the truth that many ignorant parents and others can’t comprehend? Talk about shooting the messenger. I did not take it as this lady endorsed it.
|
You're not understanding the issue because you didn't understand what she said.
She's not speaking truth at all. Maybe at one point she had a semblance of a reasonable idea, until she exaggerated to the point of an out right lie. It's basically pure libel.

Even more porn? NDP election ads?
After a day, I still haven't figured out what you're alluding to here. Maybe we don't all know the terror of which you speak...

Shooting the messenger is an appropriate response when the messenger is making up dumb ####.
And to be clear, she will not be shot. Not even sure she was "forced" to resign. If she was, was it because of the woke (checks notes), rural, UCP southern Alberta mob?

When I was 12 someone showed me a video of people getting executed by decapitation, it was ####ed up. Kids are going to see all kinds of awful things. It is up to parents to prepare them for this reality. It is not comfortable, but they need to be given the tools. Our parents were unable to do this because they had no idea, but teaching your kids about porn and other NSFW needs to happen. This isn't a school problem, it is an internet problem, and parent need to teach their kids about what awful things are possible through the internet.

exactly. I have a daughter and we have discussions with her on a regular basis.
Have been since she was old enough to play on a phone or tablet.

There's an advertisement for a movie on the tiny little sticker on the bananas I just bought. Where next?

Yep, agreed. I don't know from where these pearl-clutchers get this naïve image of children as these innocent, uncorrupted little angels; Do they forget their own childhood? Children are little hellions. You know how the kids in early episodes of South Park talked to each other? That's not fiction, that's how eight-year-olds talk when adults aren't around.
Before Shaw got fully into the cable ISP game (actually it was "Videon" back then in Winnipeg), dipped their feet into this whole "Internet on your TV" trial thing where you had what was effectively a desktop computer and TV-out adapter packaged with a wireless keyboard and remote.
When my parents weren't around, you bet your ass that my dumb little buddies and I looked for pr0n on that thing. Parental controls? Hah, I was the parental control, so if I didn't want them using it, I could lock it down far better than they could. Once Videon axed the TV Internet offering, we got 56k dial-up on our actual computer and the search for boobies raged on.
It is 100% a parental responsibility to talk to their kids after this sort of stuff. Parents have funny priorities though, my parents wouldn't let me rent Mortal Kombat II for my Sega Genesis after they saw me play it one time, but Die Hard and Die Hard 2 were mainstays at Christmas time... you know, including that scene where a guy gets an icicle jabbed INTO HIS F--KING EYESOCKET.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation with the UCP lady, but I think we're having two different conversations here.
Yes, on one hand, kids will be exposed to all sorts of things and it's only realistic to expect that and prepare them.
However, that's not at all what the UCP lady is referring to... Is it?
My understanding was that the porn reference was in regards to sex-ed and associated images... As in, that's the "porn" the children are being exposed to by their teachers. Wasn't there some push from the right wing nuts that sex ed materials were too graphic? Then, obviously, the gender reassignment comment was just pure BS...

Or the anticipation for an image of a boob to finally load through dial up... Spoiled brats.

You can find porn almost by accident these days.
One more thing about parents and funny priorities, I think I must have been about 14 when my dad showed me "Naked News". Can't rent Mortal Kombat, but I can watch an attractive woman give the weather forecast with her V and biscuits on display.

Yeah, I think we departed from that topic pretty quickly once it was confirmed that OP was, to quote Pepsi, "some kind of elite-level dumbass" on this particular subject.

Never understood where Helen Lovejoy on nudity thing came from.
We all came into existence by shooting out of our dads member into our mothers area. But after being pulled out of it, we must wait 18 years to see genitals. We mostly sucked on boobs for the first X months.
So we're telling kids that sucking on boobs is A-OK, but seeing them, hells no!
We need to have pre-birth in utero surgeries to tape up a fetus' eyes so they do not see where they emerge from.

Someone should tell the same people what kids are exposed to on pro-life ad boards and protest signs/banners.

That's not porn though... It's basically gore, which I guess is so much better I guess.
The porn thing I think is some misguided concept that people can't control themselves. I'm guessing it's like a less funny burn in hell overreaction to "Hey, look, a pants tent!" or something.

Arguably, that's better than the opposite, which is the situation for a lot of kids growing up, where gore and violence are no problem but a mild swear word or a bare breast are the end of the world.

Well that's the old joke: It's ok to show a breast on TV, as long as there's a bullet going through it.
