Default Diving and the shame it brings the game

I really wish they would start handing out suspensions and fines for blatant diving attempts.

Also, I think if a player gets a diving penalty the other team can't get a penalty on the same play. So if Iginla's stick comes in the way of Burrows feet and Burrows dives then it could only be a diving penalty on Burrows. The way it's called now usally both players get the penalty so it's a even up call so there is really nothing stopping the Canucks from diving.

I pity the Canuck fans for having to watch soccer esque dives though.

Do you guys think a fine or suspension for diving is reasonable?

I wouldn't go as far as suspending or fining, but the whole idea of negating another penalty for a blatant dive would def. be something worth considering imo.

How's the view on that high horse?

Flames players have taken dives this year and will undoubtedly do so in the future.

Really? because the last dive i remember from a Flames player was Oleg Saprykin.

But feel free to post any other dives you can find.

It does annoy me when there is both a penalty and a dive penalty called. It should only be one or the other not both.

I dont recall seeing a blatant dive like I see from the Canucks all the time. Especially Burrows. That guy has no shame.

- Referees don't have the benefit of instant replay.

- Players are playing on a slippery surface, sometimes it may look like they are diving... but in fact they aren't. They could have poor balance.

- It can be difficult for fans to identify dives that their team makes.

- All teams take advantage of diving (Kesler and Burrows dive sometimes).

- Getting high sticked is painful, it may look like a player is overeacting, but in fact they might just be surprised by the stick that hit them (which they didn't see coming) and the ensuing pain.

How was I trying to be funny there? Please explain that one to me.

Great job champ.

Do you ever contribute anything to a thread?

Instead of answering the threads main question you try to add a one liner WEAK!

So do you think that the NHL should stop giving two penalties when a diving penalty is called?

Do you think a fine or suspension is reasonable for divers?

Is this guy disillusion or what? Kiprusoff has NEVER pulled anything like Luongo does on a very consistent basis. Burrows...? .

And to answer the OP, yes diving should be a penalty. As it stands now it seems like refs will just not call penalties that Burrows is on the receiving end of to even it out. I'd much rather see him have to go sit in the box and acknowledged as the rat he is. Also Luongo, the rat king. Next time he goes for best male in a drama series i'd like to see him slapped with a penalty. The whole team really are a bunch of punks though. They do it more than any team in the league FOR SURE. ALL predjiduces aside. Watching Avery almost make Hordichuk and O'Briens head explode on the bench was a treat.

I'm not sure about other threads but this one in particular, just what are you trying to add to the discussion HOOT?

I can understand EDBTZ12 frustration, and with any thread it's really annoying when people post random nonsensical replies, especially ones with little comical value.

Are you seriously thinking no Calgary Flame has taken a dive this year?? Like seriously?? Think about that for a second. What's the matter with you?

The only thing that would add any value to this discussion would be locking it up.

I hate to back up the Canucks, but watching the Wings against Edmonton and then against Calgary, I thought they were horrible offenders of diving, and really put the Canucks to shame.

Yes, we understand you are a Canucks fan and believe diving is a huge part of the game, thing is it really isn't.

I honestly do not remember the last time a Flames player took a dive, another reason why I'm proud to be a Flames fan.

i don't know if any team outdives the other, but man o man, ryan kesler has made an art out of the diving fall, or the head snap back. great hockey player, limited integrity.
