It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of the world, but how stupid was TSN with that acquisition. It took them like two weeks to take the most iconic theme song in Canada and turn it into this watered down, overused, two many version nothingness.
They were bold and confident in marketing it as this amazing thing they received that they were going to use any chance they got and they destroyed it so quickly.

I whole-heartedly agree with this. CTV/TSN was so insistent on making it "their own" that when they re-recorded it they had to add their own little signature musical elements to the theme and totally ruined it from the CBC version.
"Watered down" is precisely the right description of what they did.
For shame, TSN.

With TSN not really being involved with hockey anymore, I wonder if they'd sell it back to CBC at some point? Those posting that it hasn't been the same are right. I do like Sportsnet's new theme, as that has a classic sound to it too.

I agree. But I have to admit I loved what Neil Peart did with it.

TSN and RDS are heavily involved with hockey and the NHL. They have extensive regional contracts with the Habs, Jets, Leafs, and Senators.

I found out that the composer also wrote “a place to stand” for Ontario for Centennial 1967. Also a catchy tune from my youth. Ontario Place and the big screen were enhanced with that song.
The Hnic theme was a call to the TV on a Saturday night when you were lucky to get to watch to the end of the second period if you could stay awake that long.

Complete brain fart on my part but it clearly isn't the same with regional games, which is why I forgot about it. I was thinking more about their involvement with world juniors (a different theme) or WHC. With regional games the feel of hockey night just doesn't resonate.
