Landeskog seems like the type of player that will see a decent drop off in his 30’s as he plays a fairly rough and tumble game that has aged poorly for several other players over the past 15 years.
With that said he would be a phenomenal add to the team especially if Gio is gone. I don’t think the Flames would have a shot compared to all the US based teams that would be after him. Just have to hope he would be intrigued by the Swedish mafia in Calgary and the fact Calgary is a similar city to Denver and he appreciates playing in front of a rabid passionate fanbase

$5.125M AAV for 8 years seems like an insult

How much would he score on a line that doesn't have MacKinnon? If I was an Avs fan I wouldn't want him on an 8 year deal with the way he plays.

Probably not as much, but he is one of the best play drivers in the NHL. He would miss MacKinnon, but MacKinnon would also miss him.
And not that I can value it, but I imagine many would say he's a good leader and the captain of his team.

I would think he should be worth more than RNH. Probably not much more, but more in terms of production and leadership.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Colorado is being very careful not to land in cap hell. If the number doesn't work I'd definitely let him walk. I see him ending up in St Louis for a 7x7

Landeskog should just head for UFA if the Avs are just gonna insult their captain by offering that garbage offer.
Landeskog >> RNH

I'd rather have Landeskog at 8x8 than Hyman at 6x8 though.

I'd be happy with the equivalent of 50 mil/8 years for landeskog IMO 6.25 per.
We can only offer 7 though, right? So 7x6.25 ... I feel like other teams would offer this contract though.

Interesting. Blackhawks have given permission to Max Shalunov to talk to other teams. Shalunov wants to be a Blackhawk but seems worried that once the dust of the offseason settles there won't be a roster spot for him so is exploring his options

I'd be okay with the Flames offering Landeskog something in the world of 7.5M x 4
He is 28, can play center, is just a little off a PPG in the playoffs, plays with a ton of intensity and physicality.
Not to mention he fits the Swedish profile.
That said anything over a 5 year contract is a total no go. Pay him more for a short term but no forward needs to be playing after 33 for anything more than 1m.

I still think this Landeskog thing is a distraction.
He will re-sign in Colorado after the expansion draft, and this whole thing is just a ploy to make it so they don't have to protect him, while making it look like it wasn't planned the whole time to avoid the cries of exploiting the expansion draft.
He will sign back with Colorado on July 26th or something like that.

I disagree the Makar, and looming Mackinnon contracts are restricting Sakic, moreover Landeskog already took a team friendly deal of 4.5M AVV, this will be his last contract and he will want to make his due, especially from the team he made a deal for last time.

So, I guess you have no interest in signing any good UFA, including retaining your best players.

Landeskog did get 52 points as a rookie playing mostly with Stastny as his center. His production after that was at the very least consistent, or surpassed that. He also played a lot with Kerfoot as his center back in the 2018-19 season.

Good UFA's like the player who leads the current UFA class in points? or who is year younger then Hall, or who averaged a greater TOI than any other available UFA forward?
Gabriel Landeskog is stud who would immediately make the Flames top 6 better. He also makes a Monahan trade a pragmatic possibility since he has played center most of his career.
Besides, come July 21st, the Flames will be 6.75M AVV lighter on their cap.

But if you are not willing to go over 4 years term then the Flames have really no shot at getting him

5 years was a my limit, but your point is valid, that said, I would be willing to give him more to make it work. The term for any UFA is always the worst part.
