lanny Stampede Corral starts coming down this month..

Pretty sad in a lot of ways. It's a shame it couldn't have been retrofitted and refurbished in the manner of Toronto's CNE Coliseum.

It hosted a lot of rock concerts back in the day. The old barn rattled so much you thought it might implode.

First home of the Flames, and hockey memories from before then.

Fond memories of this place, not only hockey but also concerts, and weirdly fond memories of watching the dog shows in there during the stampede lol.

Yeah, totally makes sense, but that is sad. Lots of good memories in that place..was definitely too young to experience it in a Flames perspective, but I attended the Calgary Hitmen's first ever game which was in that barn, and just random events I saw there over the years. Actually I think my earliest and fondest experiences there was being a kid at the Stampede watching the Superdogs shows there ha-ha. But when you're a little kid and obsessed with dogs, that's a big deal!

Final thing I saw there was the Back to the Future reunion, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Was a great send-off personally. Yeah I'm hoping they're planning on at least preserving some stuff in there, RIP Corral

First thing I saw there: Flames game
Last thing I saw there: Pantera concert.

Played many a game there, too, hopping over the extra high boards!

Yup, sad indeed. Im going to miss walking the corridors, glancing at the old photos and just enjoying a piece of our history.

This is a shame as I have some great memories of Flames and Cowboy games here, concerts and yeah things like the dog show during Stampede. A few years ago on a trip back to Calgary, made a point of taking my son here to walk the corridors, look at the photos and get into as many nooks and crannies as we could. He was just at the right age to think it was kind of cool.

Oh wow, my first thought was “Save the photos!” — turns out they were just copies. They won’t be saving the seats either due to lead paint.

Some things won't be saved.

A large collection of photos covering Calgary's hockey history as well as performers and events from the Corral's past which were on display in the concourse will not be saved.

They are copies of originals which are safely stored in the Stampede's archives. Officials say the copies are literally bolted to the walls and would be damaged when removed.

Nostalgia buffs also won't get the chance to buy or bid on original wooden seats from the building.

Stampede officials say the red coloured seats are covered with lead paint and they would be dangerous if they end up in people's basements or garages.

I remember going to the Corral for the circus and the icecapades. I know I saw one Flames game there - my uncles seats were on the end, behind the goal, in the multi-coloured wooden seats. IIRC the comfy brown seats were along the length of the rink.

ok glad the pictures are just copies , but still a bummer they couldn't salvage the versions we all know and love

I'm sure just on this site alone there a bunch of folks who would pay a few bucks to have some of them down in the old rec room

Would be cool to get a seat... that’s unfortunate. I know people who have Maple Leaf Garden seats are they’re amazing.

I have 6 green saddle dome seats.... not the same.

My wife's grandpa was an engineer back in the day and he worked on the building. He was this old Scottish guy, so just imagine Mike Meyers' character from So I Married an Axe Murderer yelling about perfect sight lines and doing all the calculations on paper. For whatever reason he was adamant that seating made of real Canadian wood was superior to everything. His favourite go-to story was that some of the seats had bear-claw marks on them.

Went to my first Flames game in that building when I was 6 years old. I remember my eyes stinging and my throat hurting from the cigarette smoke. Loved every second of it!

Somebody tell those dolts you can safely strip lead paint from antiques. Duh.

Should be saving these as a heritage item.

F-ing government takes their cut.

I graduated from high school in the Corral. It's a shame to see it go. Lots of great memories in there.

I got on the ice for the Boy Scouts chuckwagon races - a few skaters pulled a sled and driver around the ice, with one skater behind holding a tow rope to keep the sled straight in the corners. It was quite exciting, with many crashes.

Probably the worst concert spot in Calgary (for sound, comfort if you're in a seat... literally everything actually) so I won't be sad to see that option taken off the table, but it's always sad losing part of history.

Forgot about the smoking... if I recall it was restricted to the concourse (which in a confined area only made it worse). Of course it was a different story for rock concerts... thick plumes of marijuana smoke wafted from the seats.
