Question Things to do Around Town?

My Nephew (& family) from Vancouver, and some cousins from the States are coming up to visit during the Holidays. I'm so stumped on what to do besides the typical Banff, Lake Louise, West Ed deals.

Anyone have any family friendly activities/destinations that they could share?

Thanks in advance.

Skating at the Oval can be fun...or Olympic Plaza for that matter.

Zoo, Science centre, Heritage Park, I don't know what Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump is like in the winter, check to see if the aviation museum in Nanton is open - the Lancaster they have is pretty cool, the Glenbow has some freaky looking exhibit or I'd suggest it. If Edmonton is in your plans the Big Valley steam train from Stettler could be an option - again I'm not sure if it runs in the winter.

That should get you enough activities with a couple of days in the mountains. Could also hit the Icefields and do a loop of Banff, Lake Louise, Ice fields, Jasper, Edmonton and back.

Too bad Wintergreen wasn't around anymore. Anybody ever go tire tubing there in the late 90s? It was so fun yet so unbelievably dangerous.

One thing I've always wanted to do is go to COP and do the bobsledding. Can you still do that? I think that'd be an awesome time.

btw we're dancing around the obvious here. Take em to a Flames game!

I think so, I definitely know you can go luging, which is also pretty fun.

A few of us looked into that last year...it's still around, but it's not cheap. If I recall correctly, it was something like a hundred bucks for one ride down.

Edit---Oh, found the prices:

Individual: $165
Group of 3+: $150
Group of 12+: $130

Also, you have to be over 16 and weigh less than 250 pounds.

Second edit---that's the price per person. As much fun as I think it would be, I can't see myself spending 150 bucks for a two minute ride.

Jesus, really?? I heard it was like $60(though that was six years ago). Is that per sled, or per person? Three people in the sled(plus the driver who takes you down) is $33 per person, that's not too bad, if it is per sled.

EDIT: Just saw your edit, wow, 50 bones each. That's a little steep. Meh, I'll probably still do it at some point. That'd be bananas.

Haha that'd be the best 6 seconds of your life before you lose your toboggan in mid air and come down on your spine. Meh, I can't think of a better story of why you're now paralyzed.

Just a ditto on many of the things that have been mentioned already: Glenbow, Calgary Tower, Devonian Gardens, Science Centre, Zoo, Heritage Park.

A couple of other ideas:

Free outdoor skating at Bowness Park.

An over-the-top outing would be a guided Snowmobiling tour in Banff. You need to book well in advance and it is spendy.
