Haynes and down goes brown are two key additions for me. I just signed up tonight.

It took me until April of last year to finally cave and pay for sports news and I loved having it very much. The quality and the experience were far better than what I'd come to expect. CP and Twitter were my primary news sources, as I'd stopped going to the big sites for anything but headlines a long time ago.

Scores were my only gripe, as I had to keep another app around to check in around the league and I'm looking forward to see how the new scores work this year!

The last piece to the puzzle is player scorecards. I loved seeing those post-game in the NFL, and I see the option there for NHL games but not sure if that's in the plans this year or not. I find the conversations on a specific players game very interesting in PGTs, and I'd love to see their evaluation as well if that's feasible.

There's enough free content out there for me via CP, Flames Nation, Twitter, Herald/Sun to get my Flames and sports fix. No need for any subscriptions.

When they give 100% off and move to ad based service I'll subscribe.

You'll be waiting a long time. The ad based model for this sort of content has been a dismal failure. Advertisers have shown they won't pay much for online ads, and most of what they do pay goes to Google and Facebook.

I would say it's never going to happen. There's a reason the newspapers are going bankrupt. Eventually you will have to pay for almost all content beyond headlines.

Yep, their model will either work or they'll close business. Hope they are successful but model not for me.

I was one of the "never pay for articles on the web" guys. but the addition of Haynes and Cruickshank was a game changer for me.

Work isn't free. It's the cost of two cups of coffee a month, well worth it.

I almost bit when Eric D went over, but DGB and FF80 were the tipping point. Pay for content is fine if it is great content.

This was a big realization for me since I subscribed.

The big benefit of pay-for models is the path to revenue. Providing great content people want to pay for benefits everyone. The advertising model breeds click-bait, and the content writers have to be mindful of content that would upset the advertisers. I'm looking forward to seeing this model takeoff elsewhere.

I'm happy to trade (reasonable) amounts of money instead of selling my personal data or settling for a lesser product.

I like that they allow you to "follow" some teams. Hopefully an influx of Flames fans inspires more Flames related content.

Like many, many posters over the last day I waited for the Haynes hire to jump and sign up.

Good to hear The Athletic listened to us! I bet there's been a big surge of Calgary signups.

It looks like there's a $10 Amazon referral... so if anybody is still looking to sign up, feel free to use this link:

What's the value-for-content like if I only follow the Flames and to a lesser extent the Stamps?

I subscribed. Thanks Haynes...

There was a Twitter ad for 50% off so I paid $35.99 CAD.

We'll have to see after this season, but given all the recent additions it should be pretty good. Honestly, you'd be surprised if you read some of the other content on the site. It's pretty interesting.

None of the 50% off ones are working for me. Even this twitter deal came up with a message saying "looks like this is no longer available, but here's 30% off".

Please post if you find anything.

To those paying $35 for their first year. Just be prepared to pay $72 when you renew...

What are you talking about? I didn’t pay $72 to renew. I think the earlier you get in, the better deal you have going forward. I’ve been supporting them since James put out his shingle. He’s a great writer, better human, & someone who is cognizant of what each & every market wants & deserves, especially outside of Toronto.
