Tyler Toffoli for a 1st and a mid-level prospect.

Calgary trades: 1st round pick
Washington trades: Burakovsky
Or
Calgary trades: 1st round pick
Ottawa trades: Dzingle
Rationale: both are young enough and cheap enough to be re-signed... there's no guarantee that the pick is any better than either of those two players, both of whom could be 2nd/3rd liners with some scoring upside and could be potentially signed for 3-5 years.

Burakovsky has 17 points this season and a qualifying offer of 3.25 million. I don't know if I'd want to spend a 1st on him when he has yet to pan out.

Time for a poll in the lead up to deadline that is something like this:
1. Add top 6 forward and give up major assets
2. Add depth forward and give up minor asset
3. Add depth Dman and give up minor asset
4. Add starting goalie and give up major assets
5. Add backup goalie and give up minor asset
6. Stand pat with no moves at deadline since we are deep enough and have a long contender window to consider
The last few games have convinced me we have lots of depth across the forward and Dman group to stand pat. Given the following:
Return to health of Valimaki and Stone
Excellent play of Kylington and Andersson
Emergence of Czarnik, Eatbread and Hathaway as solid depth forwards.
Stellar play of Quine and Dube in Stockton as black aces.
Goaltending is a wildcard but better to address in offseason when options greater since so critical to organization.
Lets hold onto what we have within our somewhat shrunken prospect pool and our limited 2019 picks and run with what we have into postseason.
I wonder what proportion of CPers feel the same way?

oh for sure... its a bit of a risk, but he's a kind of 'buy low' player that could pay off...
of course BT thought that about Lazar too (a 1st rounder that needed a change of scenery)...
i think the risk is a late 1st, which in theory, is also a bit of a crapshoot. The benefit is that you hope he can add to your line up this playoff run rather than waiting a year or two for that 1st to pan out

a first round pick is not 'buy low' prices. Burakovsky is a guy I could see the Flames going after in the off season but I don't think he makes sense for now and the playoffs.
I still think Stone and Nilsson are the ideal trade targets, they should cost a lot but Dorion is a bit of an idiot. I think people are going to be laughing at the return the sens get for any of the players they trade.

There's no better time of the year to be a subtle troll than around the trade deadline.
It's interesting to see peoples' perception of trade value.
I've gone cold on Stone, since it sounds like he'd cost way too much to re-sign. And I don't really think the Flames should get a rental unless it had a very low cost.

Some of the prices here are hilarious.
A 1st and two young roster players for a rental?
How you end up like the Oilers.

I originally thought they would pick up Zuch. The media thinks he can fetch a 2nd and a " b" prospect. Flames dont have a second.
I'm going to say they pick up a popcorn eating d-man and thats it.

You could probably draft a franchise goalie in the 7th and swap him for Crosby LOL

Why assume its a rental?
Flames Gm if they made a big splash, I would bet they would try to sign the player.

Unless someone's trade proposal for a pending UFA says re-sign (in which case I'd expect conditional assets to be involved) I assume it's a rental.
There's almost no sign and trade deals in the NHL. There's hardly ever permission for teams to negotiate with targets ahead of a trade. Assuming a guy will re-sign seems like a big gamble.

I doubt it, Flames would do their homework...
I can't see the Flames sending 4 assets for a pure rental....

There seems to be a misconception that if the Flames get Stone they get him signed already (sign & trade). I assume people mean that the Flames will have a deal worked out with the player, who then is signed by Calgary after he is traded here.
So, a trade & sign basically.

Or sign him after the season has ended,
if the Flames trade for a top 6 winger who happens to be a pending UFA
I would guess, they will push to re-sign the player
