My point is that all the goalies were doing that, and most of the players were doing that. Nobody was putting in much of an effort.

I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anything from last night that would be impressive effort-wise in a game situation.

Nothing I'm saying is new as it's been typed here 100x, but wow, just seeing the highlights now. What a pathetic event. It's possible to actually de-value your sport by throwing something that was so cringey. Fastest skater, great. Accurate shot, great. Hardest shot, great. Why with the gimmicks? Anything to do with the goaltenders tends to be terrible as well. They really have to just position it more in line with practice drills. I'm sure 8 year olds are looking at this and facepalming at how bad it was. I felt bad watching the "highlights". Totally understand the idea of bringing in women as that's 50% of the population to get revenue from but from the standpoint of talent it's pretty freaking bad (with certain exceptions). Does the Arkells guy have to be involved with every NHL production? Master schmoozer that guy. What a disaster.

The whole point of the spectacle of the show is to try and grow interest. Everyone should be happy that an underdog beat the golden boy in a competition. Especially this year where the general theme seems to be diversity in the game of hockey.

The video trying to make it sound like Kadri cheated is pathetic.

Watching that youtube clip, it seems like the announcers were caught off guard that another guy was even competing with "Mchayzus" much less beating him.

Grow the game, elevate the stars! Sure. But to concentrate solely on one guy ain't gonna do it. Especially when said star plays in the most distant and desolate market possible, with apologies to Winnipeg.

I remember in the 90's when I was getting into my teens and my interest in sports other than the NHL was piqued. I came to learn that every team in the NFL and the NBA had a star player and I was interested in learning who they were and why they were great. I'm sure people unfamiliar with the NHL have a similar way of engaging. Video games even emphasize that more since you can literally pretend to be those guys and try every team. One game I'd dance around defences with Barry Sanders, the next I'd be dropping back and launching bombs with Dan Marino, the next I'd scramble around with John Elway.

But it seems the NHL is just hellbent on having one star. Another Gretzky. After all, that was the actual golden era, they surely realize. Little do they seem to understand, he was buoyed by all the other stars that played at the same time.

As much as its hilarious for the commentary to be focussed on McD, and having Kadri beat him...

Isn't the competition ACCURACY shooting? Not speed shooting?

Another example of how the NHL just doesn't get this event - it you want to have an event be about accuracy, don't make the competition about speed.

Kadri took one extra shot. In the real game if a player can be just as accurate while being more than 20% faster in releasing, something to be said for that too.

My guess is 10% of CP could go 4 for 4 with a little practice and have as much time as you'd like to shoot.

McDavid must have got thrown off by Gretzky like in his betting commericals.

Nope. Next question.

It was cringey, but just watching the NFL pro bowl thing, it has some competition. There was the accurate passer event and then some of the others:
Water balloon toss
Longest golf drive
Dodge ball

Also, how in the hell is Skinner an all-star? Oilers fans spamming the fan vote?

so take an hour to line-up your shot?

obviously doing it quickly translates to the game, it should be about both

They have had speed being the tiebreaker in the past, that worked just fine.

I was just watching some of this on replay and it’s pathetic. I can’t believe people would pay money to go to an event like this.

And when Bettman says Calgary won’t host until we get a new arena, it makes me want to stick with the Saddledome. It’s just so dumb.

Since the league could not penalize Kadri and put McDavid on a Power Play, they have issued Kadri a $10,000 fine, maximum allowable under the current CBA.
