If, God forbid, Tanev is out for a bit who would be available for Dmen?
Gavrikov, Dumba and Schenn? Who would slot in best and not cost an arm and a leg?

Schenn. Unfortunately with his low cap hit , Vancouver will have many teams vying for him. Can’t see them trading him to Calgary , when they can send him east.

I expect that they will trade him to whomever makes the best offer.
If you were Vancouver, would you worry about Schenn coming back to haunt you?

Having already handed Calgary Tanev, Markstrom, and in a round about way Toffoli, why should they care if Schenn haunts them?

Tampa needs to make as much space as humanly possible to fit Hedman's buddy Karlsson in, cause thats probably the only place he'd be willing to waive to.

If Tanev is out, you play what you have.
Let's not waste assets to try and plug that hole with the team looking mid pack and maybe getting into the playoffs.
The only trade the team should be looking at is a top 6 scorer who can bring an X factor and move the needle from mediocre to competitor.

Like, Luke Schenn? Is Luke Schenn still serviceable? Wasn't this guy floater material for years?

Serviceable bottom pairing guy making just above league minimum with cup winning experience. And RHS to boot.
Exactly what a lot of teams will be after. Its going to be weird seeing a bidding war for him though, for sure.

I don't think it would be the worst to bring in a serviceable dman if Tanev is out a bit who can bump Stone down to 7th dman when Tanev is back. This is all assuming that Kylington sits the year.

We actually need a LHS IMO. To me ideally you could keep Zadorov and Weegar together.
With Tanev out:
Hanifin-Anderson
Zadorov - Weegar
Mackey - Stone
If Tanev is back and still no Kylington:
Hanifin-Anderson
??? - Tanev
Zadorov - Weegar
Mackey- Stone
If Tanev and Kylington are both available:
Hanifin-Anderson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadorov - Weegar
Mackey- Stone
IMO Mackey is the spot you're trying to upgrade on, especially if Kylington isn't returning this season. And it's a LH dman that would be preferred because really the Anderson, Tanev, Weegar, Stone depth for RH d-men is great.

Yeah the unfortunate thing is that the replacement for Tanevs minutes would have to be from within. But we’d certainly need a boost to our bottom end depth.
Edit: ^ out of thanks but SuperMatt nailed it.

I feel like they (Sutter) would be happy moving forward with Weeger-Tanev and finding a RH replacement for Stone.
Thats assuming they feel like the deadline target is a scoring top 6 winger after which they won't be able to spend anything more on a top pairing D

I'd actually like Ethan Bear over here - a jersey with his name written in Cree syllabics for Flames would be pretty dang cool as well
(and condolences on Ethan and fam recently losing their dog Bronco)

Didn't Toffoli just lost his puppy Dodger recently as well?
Condolences to Ethan and family.

I think Luke Schenn would be an excellent fit. He's a much better version of Gudbranson.
I do not like the potential bidding war that will manifest to acquire him, especially if vancouver is applying a premium for us.
If we're not willing to give Phillips a fair shot I would be tempted to offer phillips for him.

Schenn is the type of dman someone will overpay for. I am just hoping Kylington comes back

Tanev was not at the Flames poker tournament last night. I was at a table with Huberdeau and someone asked him about Tanev and Huby said he had not heard what the injury is.

I hate the idea of trading draft picks for bottom pairing defensemen. I still think the Flames should be able to manage and it's a matter of Darryl upping the minutes for the top 4 guys like a lot of coaches do.
